The Philadelphia Eagles will travel, albeit not very far, for their third and final preseason game of 2025 to take on the New York Jets on Friday night.
There’s little chance any of the Eagles starters play in this matchup, especially considering several guys are still trying to work back from injury in time for the regular season opener. Still, there’s a lot of questions about some of the depth at certain positions, and this will be a big opportunity for guys competing for a roster spot.
Rookie quarterback Kyle McCord was getting snaps at QB2 when Tanner McKee was sidelined with a finger injury earlier in the week, and could be the starter for this game. McCord, along with Dorian Thompson-Robinson, struggled last week against the Browns, but with McKee out, one of them will need to step up in a big way.
McCord and DTR having good games will also be essential in evaluating the wide receiver depth, including newcomer John Metchie. The latest Eagles WR acquisition doesn’t have a lot of time to get acclimated in Philly and preseason reps will be valuable. It’ll also be a good opportunity for Darius Cooper and Ainias Smith to continue developing and getting live reps, especially now that Johnny Wilson is out for the entire season.
The biggest goal for the Eagles coming out of this game should be avoid players falling victim to the field at MetLife Stadium less than two weeks before the regular season opener.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the game.
