Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
Where Does Every NFL Defense Rank for 2025? – The Ringer
3) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. As mentioned at the top, it’s hard to stay on top defensively from one year to the next. After their Super Bowl win in February, a lot of people ran with the narrative about the Eagles’ investment in their pass rush paying off. Sure, the pass rush showed up in the Super Bowl against Kansas City. But that one game didn’t tell the story of the 2024 defense. Vic Fangio’s group produced suffocating coverage on the back end of the defense most weeks, and that allowed the pass rush to get home. It wasn’t the other way around. Replicating that same type of stifling pass coverage will be a challenge in 2025, with the Eagles searching to find a capable second cornerback to play opposite Quinyon Mitchell and a replacement for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, with rookie Drew Mukuba potentially filling the latter role. The concern for the Eagles is not only roster turnover, but also depth. They had the second-best injury luck of any defense in the NFL last season. So given all the concern, why do I still have Philadelphia ranked so high? One, we all saw what Fangio did in year one with the Eagles. I trust him to figure things out. And two, they still have a bunch of guys—Jalen Carter, Zack Baun, Mitchell, Cooper DeJean—who are capable of turning in All-Pro seasons. Yes, the Eagles have concerns. But they are mostly first-world concerns. I still see the potential for a great defense.
Eagles training camp: 14 winners, 8 losers, and 9 IDKs – BGN
MORO OJOMO: Ojomo looked great all throughout training camp, even when Jalen Carter missed some practices early on. He was disruptive both as a pass-rusher and run defender. It’s a bit much to suggest the Eagles won’t miss a beat going from Milton Williams to Ojomo, who is a player with one career sack and two career TFLs in 29 games played. But it’s hard not to feel good about Ojomo having a breakout season. I’m expecting the statistical production to pick up this year.
Fantasy football deep RB sleepers for 2025 – SB Nation
Will Shipley, Philadelphia Eagles. ADP: RB60, 222 Overall. Shipley has been making some noise in training camp so far and could very well end up as RB2 for the reigning Super Bowl champions by the time Week 1 rolls around. The Clemson product had very limited playing time during the Eagles’ championship run a season ago, registering just 30 carries for 82 yards as a rookie. That wasn’t a surprise considering the presence of Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and Kenneth Gainwell as the team’s primary rushers in 2024, but his performance in garbage time of the NFC Championship was a brief flash of his potential. Given his potential as Barkley’s handcuff, his ADP is still pretty low as draft season unfolds. Prospective fantasy managers could be getting a steal should they find him still hanging around on the board in later rounds.
It is frustrating when a player like Ringo fails to step up. Still, you have to take those chances. The worst thing you can do is fill your roster with “safe” veterans, guys who are effective, but have a ceiling. Sometimes even they don’t pan out and you’re stuck with a mediocre player. He can help you be around a .500 team, but isn’t likely to get you to the big game. You must take some chances. The Eagles scouting staff has done a great job in recent years of finding talented young players. The coaching staff has done a great job of developing those players. That’s how you build the best roster in the league. The team got several good answers from young players last year and that helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl. If the team can get some more good answers this season, the Eagles will remain near or at the top of the league.
Agholor finished with a team-high nine catches and was second to only Corey Clement with 84 receiving yards. It’s hard to believe anything was wrong with the former first-round pick based on his performance, but in the lead up to the game, it was reported that Agholor was dealing with an illness. And on a recent episode of Talkin’ Ball with Pat Leonard, the Super Bowl champion revealed just how sick he was before the big game.
“I ended up dealing with some pneumonia out there because it was so cold and I had asthma,” Agholor said. “So, I had to go to the hospital the night before — and prednisone was what I was going to describe to you. Just to be clear, it’s legal for asthmatic people. It’s a steroid that helps with our lungs. If you end up with — it’s just hard to breathe, and if you are that sick, a doctor would prescribe prednisone for you. So, I had to get on some prednisone. I had to get on the nebulizer because I couldn’t breathe. I was very sick the night before.”
2025 NFL defensive rookies: Best and worst case for 17 players – NFL.com
JIHAAD CAMPBELL. Best-case scenario: Campbell’s strong camp and preseason translates into the regular season. He becomes a versatile piece for Vic Fangio to utilize at off-ball linebacker and as an edge rusher in some situations. The wise defensive coordinator gets the most out of him, adding yet another playmaker to the Philly D. Worst-case scenario: Campbell’s instincts for the position are not quite where they need to be when he’s thrown into the fire and he struggles to earn Fangio’s trust. Campbell has a limited role on defense after Nakobe Dean returns from injury.
NFC East Over/Unders 2025: Are Eagles Overvalued? – FTN Fantasy
Also at play here: The second-hardest schedule in the league, and an over/under line juiced by maybe an extra win as a defending champion tax. 11.5 is a tough line to hit – it’s basically the highest line each year, this season included. We haven’t seen higher lines since 2021, the first year of the 17-game schedule, as Vegas tried to figure out just how to account for the extra game in their odds. That’s a rough combination, no matter how good you think a team actually is. The average win total for a team in the top 10 in DVOA but with one of the three hardest schedules in the league is just 9.9; the only three teams in DVOA history that would have gone over on an 11.5-win line are the 2022 Bengals, 2005 Broncos and 1990 Raiders. Yes, some of that comes from the extra game you get nowadays, but even being overly generous and assuming everyone would have won their 17th games, you’re only adding seven more teams to the list. It’s entirely reasonable for the Eagles to go 11-6, make the playoffs as a wild-card team, and go under this line.
Eagles could have had a better camp, but does it matter? – ESPN
Add it all up, and where does it leave them? Probably in a place where they’ll have to iron out some kinks on the fly. While Hurts, Brown and Smith know each other’s games extremely well by now, there just hasn’t been enough time on task for the starting 11 to expect everything to be super sharp from the jump — especially in a tweaked system featuring a new play caller. On defense, Fangio will have to continue to experiment with personnel to see what pairings net the best results. Philadelphia, as an organization that typically steers clear of playing starters in the preseason to preserve their health, is accustomed to using the beginning of the regular season to fine-tune things. The talent usually allows the organization to do so without digging a sizable hole. But with an opening slate featuring the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and an overall schedule with little give, the urgency to round into form quickly is heightened.
Spadaro: The legend of Reed Blankenship serves as an important reminder – PE.com
This is too good of a story to stop telling, the one of Reed Blankenship in his rookie season of 2022 after five years at Middle Tennessee State and how he signed with the Eagles following the NFL Draft in the spring and made it all the way to the third and final preseason game as an under-the-radar candidate to make the 53-man roster. In that preseason game, largely forgettable from an Eagles’ standpoint given the 48-10 beating Miami administered, Blankenship continued to impress with five total tackles, physical play, and a command of coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s defense. And then, he sweated through the next 48 hours as Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman reduced the roster to 53 players.
Eagles notebook: Drew Kendall working overtime to boost his stock – NBCSP
Drew Kendall is a center but he knows he needs to be more than that. In the second preseason game, the Eagles’ fifth-round pick from Boston College was asked to play some guard too. “All it is a couple inches over,” Kendall said. “You’re 12 inches over from the center. It doesn’t sound like a big deal. But in the moment, it kind of gets you a little uncomfortable.” Because Kendall’s practice reps were all at center in training camp, it was on him to improve as a guard. That meant extra reps before and after practice and seeking out coach Jeff Stoutland and coach Greg Austin for extra instruction. Cam Jurgens has obviously been a huge resource for Kendall in general but Jurgens also played guard early in his career before Jason Kelce retired. So he’s been able to help Kendall with improving his versatility as well.
Film Session: Why Josh Conerly Jr. may be ready to start by week one – Hogs Haven
Commanders’ rookie right tackle Josh Conerly Jr.‘s performance over the first two weeks of preseason has quickly changed the conversation about him. Heading into joint practices with the New England Patriots, the narrative surrounding Conerly Jr. centered on how his slow development at the time at right tackle was primarily due to his position change from left tackle. This significant shift often requires time for adjustment. Since then, his performance has quickly ascended Conerly Jr. into another conversation, which involves him being the week one starter for Washington. Conerly Jr. starting week one alleviates any uncertainty for Washington about their starting offensive line combinations being a temporary fix to start the season. Second-year lineman Brandon Coleman has returned to practice, according to reports, and has been taking left guard reps. With Andrew Wylie’s versatility, he is very much capable of taking right guard snaps until Sam Cosmi can return from injury.
Jerry Jones had his day in court on Thursday. The court of public opinion. In a conversation that premiered on Michael Irvin’s YouTube Channel on Thursday afternoon, Jerry Jones was asked about the contract extension conversations the Dallas Cowboys have had with Micah Parsons (that is quite the sentence). Jerry noted that when the Cowboys wanted to send details to Micah’s agent David Mulugheta that they were told to take it where the sun don’t shine.
Giants-Patriots ‘Kudos & Wet Willies’ review – Big Blue View
Jaxson Dart — The rookie quarterback got the start and led the Giants on a game-opening five-play, 65-yard touchdown drive, hitting tight end Greg Dulcich for a 7-yard score. That drive included a 50-yard catch and run by wide receiver Gunner Olszewski off some improvisation from Dart. Dart finished the night 6 of 12 for 81 yards. He made the rookie mistake the Giants have been coaching him to avoid on a fourth-and-4 at the Giants’ 45-yard line. Dart got the first down easily, but wasn’t satisfied. Rather than sliding, as he should have, he tried to split two defenders. He fumbled, which he got away with because of a New England penalty, but took an unnecessary hit that landed him in the tent for a concussion check. Gotta learn to protect yourself, young man!
Tanner Mordecai, part III – Niners Nation
Per Matt Maiocco and Matt Barrows, the Niners have made a change at quarterback. Again. Two days ago, the 49ers announced the signing of quarterback Nate Sudfeld. This came after news that Mac Jones suffered an injury and would miss the final preseason game. According to Maiocco and Barrows, Sudfeld wasn’t at practice on Thursday, nor is he on the roster. Perhaps the team had a change of heart? Maybe Sudfeld wasn’t healthy. Or, Kyle Shanahan and company were more comfortable with where Tanner Mordecai is at with the offense than Sudfeld, who has been out of the league for a couple of years.
