Burks taking Knight’s spot was notable since Knight has struggled through two preseason games, but if Knight is dealing with a minor injury, this isn’t a clear benching after two game’s worth of tape. Knight was dressed for practice but didn’t participate in team drills, according to Local 12’s Richard Skinner.
Hill, one of the defense’s Final Four that played in the Super Bowl (Hill, Trey Hendrickson, Logan Wilson, Jalen Davis), went a step further on that foot when he declared, “We’re going to shock a lot of people this year. I think we’ve got a really great group of guys that is going to go out and put their best foot forward. I think a lot of people are sleeping on us a lot. I think we’ve got a lot of great players on our defense who each and every day go against one of the best offenses. All we to have to do is go out and prove it on Sundays.”
A potential stopgap Trey Hendrickson solution just fell into the Bengals’ laps
The plan is for Clowney to sign before Week 1, so there’s still a bit of runway and rounds to make on his free agency tour. What’s great about this is, Clowney would be a major asset to the Bengals whether or not Hendrickson is in uniform for the season opener at Cleveland.
’Another Monster’ – Cincinnati Bengals May Have Unlocked One More Elite Weapon on Offense
“Adding another monster to the fire,” Wilson said when asked about Brown. “He’s (Joe Burrow) throwing it more to him this camp than he has in years past. And I think that that’s just a credit to how well he’s worked on his receiving aspect of his game. And he’s a true receiving threat at all times, wherever he’s at on the field. And so you’ve got to respect that and know that the ball could be coming your way at any given time and do your best to not let him catch it.”
Why Al Golden is optimistic about Bengals’ defense despite shaky preseason performances
“Any blame on that (defense performance) goes absolutely on my shoulders,” Golden said on Aug. 21. “That’s a decision that that we made in conjunction with Zac and just trying to limit anybody’s purview in terms of what we’re doing. From that standpoint, what we have to do better in every phase of the game is, we need to tackle better. We need to take the ball away. We need to be situationally aware. All those little things are really what the standard is in terms of what we’re trying to get done in these games, but not necessarily trying to out-scheme somebody.”
