With our Miami Dolphins heading into their final preseason game this coming Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, I asked the following question:

What are you most looking forward to or hoping to observe in the Miami Dolphins’ preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this coming Saturday? Are there specific players you want to watch, and if so, why? What aspects of their performance will you be focusing on, and why? What improvements will you be looking for from the team week over week?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers-

ezdz73 doesn’t expect to see the starters much, if at all, and will be looking to see what the backups and rookies have.

I wish the starters would have gotten a series in game 2, as they usually don’t in game 3. So I guess I’ll be watching for bubble and depth players.

JUK will be looking at the team’s depth and who will take the number two running back spot on the roster.

Things of interest:

The biggest question from strength is who will be DL 5 and possibly 6?

The biggest question from weakness is whether our second outside corner is on the roster

Do borom and Brunskill continue to look like good options as the primary reserves on the interior and at tackle? Does anyone else on the roster deserve OL8?

Is Ollie Gordon RB2?

SuperG! is curious to see how the backup QB race ends up.

MiMiami has his priorities in line!

The Cheerleaders

SlayerNation1 has some questions about the running backs going into the season.

Because the starters didn’t play in WK2, now they are in a spot where they shouldn’t play in WK3 as they would be cutting it close if there is an injury.

Plus, 53 day is next week so bubble players need to play.

Mix it up and let Ewers play with the 2s.

RB I would be tempted to not play OG at all.

People clamoring for OG as RB2. I would suggest take it farther that OG should be RB1 and Achane as the change of pace back.

The metaphor is Thunder and Lightning for a reason. Mike is apparently adhering to the laws of physics and reversing to Lightning then Thunder as it appears in nature due to the difference in speed of light compared to sound.

Anyway, with Mikes Lightning/Thunder approach, “Lightning” tends to get hurt.

Wright always looks like He is taking the handoff 15 yards behind the LOS. He just looks slow, indecisive and perhaps used incorrectly. Can Wright catch? Tennessee highlights I saw some designed screens, which I know already they haven’t run screens effectively… ever.

Alpha6 wants to see the continued progression of the special teams.

Will there be any starters this game?

One series maybe?

The rest will be backups & bubble players.

STs… will be looking at how STs do.

Spok507 is interested in seeing the progress of the offensive skill positions and the secondary.

I’m interested in whether Jaylon Wright can make a case to remain RB2, or if Ollie Gordon is the guy we need there. So far, Wright hasn’t done much to impress, and Gordon, tho just a rookie, has shown he can run with power and determination, find the holes and move the ball. Right now, I’d put Ollie in front of that contest.

I’m also interested in the WR room. We know Hill, Waddle, NWI and Malik Washington are locks, but do they keep 2 or 3 more? Tahj Washington, Dee Eskridge, Wease and EZ have all had moments. Personally, I have been more impressed with Tahj and Eskridge. Tahj has great hands and is a really good route runner, gets separation. Dee is valuable as a return guy and has shown he can make a catch when needed. But Wease came on strong with Ewers and EZ has the experience in this offense. It’ll be interesting to see who they keep.

Right now, I think Ewers looks a lot more comfortable running this offense than Wilson. Wilson probably has more actual arm talent, but sometimes, it’s what’s between the ears that makes things happen. Not sure Wilson has that kind of capacity. I’d like to see Ewers with the 2s rather than the scrubs, just to see what he could do.

As for defense, I think the front is going to be scary. Hopefully they can still add vet CB to help the secondary out, but Phillips, Chubb, Chop and Judon in rotation are going to keep opposing QBs on their toes. Add in Phillips, Grant, Sieler and the LBs pushing up the middle, and maybe our secondary won’t have to be spectacular, just competent.

This team does have potential if it all comes together. I do believe it’s closer to a team than a bunch of individuals playing together that they had last season, so that gives me hope.

Dolfanjoe is looking to see who they trade for to hopefully fill a hole or two in the secondary.

Looking to see who they trade for before the last game! We still have holes at corner and depth on the O line. We have a bundle of linebackers and one will be moved this week to improve one of our holes. For the game just looking to see who they think will be part of the 17 man practice squad.

herbert pollack just wants to get out of the game healthy.

no injuries

Dolphster is on the Ollie Gordon for number two bandwagon.

As always in the preseason, I will mostly be looking for no injuries. However, I would love to also see Ollie make a strong case for getting bumped up into RB2 for the Fins when the regular season starts. I really liked him in college and his hard running style would be a nice change of pace for Achane.

Well, that’s our ten comments for this evening. A lot of the fan base seems to have the same concerns, and most of it has to do with depth on the offensive line and the secondary as a whole. The one thing that we all know about Grier, while we may not like or agree with all of his moves or moves not made, has been known to make the surprise move no one saw coming. Maybe we’ll have one of those wow moves or one of those moves that makes us all shrug our shoulders. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to join us each evening and answer our question of the day. Please be sure to join us tomorrow evening for our “Victory of the Week” post and, of course, for our live game thread on Saturday evening featuring the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Miami Dolphins.
