Malik Nabers dealing with another injury, per report

New York Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers has been sidelined for more than a week, missing the team’s preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills and joint practices against the New York Jets.

The good news, per ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan, is that Nabers is not dealing with a recurrence of the toe injury that kept him out of OTAs and mandatory minicamp in the spring, or the shoulder injury he sustained early in training camp.

The bad news is that, per Ranaan, this is yet another “very minor thing.”

As Ranaan also suggested, this is “something to keep an eye on” simply because Nabers is the Giants’ best offensive player, and these small things keep popping up.

Nabers, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, set a franchise record with 109 receptions as a rookie. That was three catches shy of the NFL rookie record set last season by Brock Bowers of the Las Vegas Raiders, who had 112 catches.

While the Giants beat the Bills in their preseason opener, head coach Brian Daboll pointed to a handful of plays that were not made by receivers on the perimeter. In the practices against the Jets, the Giants had a difficult time completing passes down the field against the Jets starting defense.

It is clear that getting, and keeping, Nabers healthy is a priority for the Giants. So, any injury, minor or not, will be worth noting.
