New York Giants coach Brian Daboll was vague on Thursday about his playing time plans for front-line players in Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Jets.
“We have an idea,” Daboll said via Zoom. “We’ll do our meetings at the end of the day and make our decision on what we’re going to do.
“We’ll do what we think is best for the team.”
In Saturday’s preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills, Russell Wilson and the first-team offense played one series. The front-line defense played roughly the entire first quarter.
“Every game is different,” Daboll said. “Again, we’ll do what we think is right for our team.
“We’ll go out here, have our walk-through today, sit down with the medical staff, get their input where the guys that have been not practicing are, who can play, who can’t, and decide what we’re gonna do.”
Daboll understands the value of live reps.
“There’s no substitute for tackling, there’s no substitute for cleaning the pocket, no substitute for run after catch when you’re going to get hit, there’s no substitute for being live as a quarterback in the pocket,” Daboll said.
The Giants are holding a walk-through practice on Thursday after two physical joint practices Tuesday and Wednesday against the Jets. The teams will play at MetLife Stadium Saturday at 7 p.m.
