Free-agent WR Keenan Allen signs one-year, $8.52M deal with Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers reunited with free-agent wide receiver Keenan Allen on a one-year, $8.52 million contract, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Allen returns to the franchise that drafted him in 2013 and where he spent the first 11 years of his career. He was one of the most productive wideouts in the NFL during his time with the Chargers, accounting for 904 receptions, 10,530 yards and 59 touchdowns from 2013-2023 while earning PFF overall grades no lower than 76.1 in that span.
The veteran wideout is one year removed from a 2023 campaign in which he ranked 11th in PFF receiving grade (87.4) and yards per route run (2.36).
Rams QB Matthew Stafford dealing with an aggravated disc in his back
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has an aggravated disc in his back, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Stafford has been sidelined for weeks due to the issue and has received an epidural to address the discomfort. Stafford plans on being available when the Rams open their season against the Houston Texans as the team proceeds with caution through August, per Rapoport.
The veteran signal-caller isn’t coming off his best season (74.7 PFF overall grade), but he is just one year removed from a top-five-ranked season in PFF overall grade (88.2) in 2023. Injuries to Los Angeles’ offensive line (all starters missed time, aside from Kevin Dotson) and top weapons hindered Stafford in 2024. Despite this, he still had the Rams in position to knock off the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the closing moments of the divisional round.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones not confident EDGE Micah Parsons will be available Week
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not confident that All-Pro edge defender Micah Parsons will be available when the Cowboys kick off the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
Parsons formally requested a trade last week after contract negotiations stalled. The team has reportedly had no contact with Parsons or his agent since then, leaving his Week 1 availability in serious question as the regular season approaches.
Parsons is on the short list of the best players in the NFL. He has recorded at least 70 pressures and earned a 91.6 PFF pass-rush grade or better in each of his four seasons.
Shedeur Sanders will start at quarterback in Browns’ preseason opener
Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will start for the Cleveland Browns in their preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers on Friday, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Stefanski added that most of the Browns’ starters will be rested for the game, including wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman. As a result, Sanders will be working with mainly second- and third-teamers in his first live NFL action.
Friday’s start presents a big opportunity for Sanders, who is part of a crowded quarterback room that includes Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Tyler Huntley. Last year at Colorado, Sanders posted the second-best adjusted completion percentage in the class (81.8%) and the third-best turnover-worthy play rate (1.3%).
