How You Became A Miami Dolphins Fan

How You Became A Miami Dolphins Fan

This past week, I asked the following question:

How did you become a Miami Dolphins fan? Are you a South Florida local, or did a parent, grandparent, or other family member pass their fandom on to you? No matter how you found your way to our big family of Phins fans, we want to hear your story. And if you’ve never commented before, there’s no better time than now to join the conversation and introduce yourself to our Phinsider faithful.

If you missed the first post, please let us know in the comments section how you found your way to your Dolphins fandome.

Below are some of your thougths and answers-

Dolphster, like many of us, found their way to their fandom via a parent or another important adult in their lives.

My dad was a big fan. So even as a tiny kid, the Fins were the talk of the house. I was 7 years old during the perfect season. When the team flew back home from the Super Bowl, my parents took me to greet the team when they got home. That excitement set the hook in me and I’ve been a diehard Fin Fan ever since.

JUK saw them on TV once they were airing the games in the UK, and was hooked once he saw Dan Marino tearing it up.

First season I remember them showing football in the UK was 1985 and I was hooked straight away. First game I saw Marino was dealing and that was that.

BuffaloFinsUp was lucky enough to be turned onto the team via trading cards with their cousin in South Florida, and then to see the entirety of the glory years.

1970: a 7-yr.-old Upstate New Yorker who couldn’t care about football was visiting family in South Florida and my older cousin was sharing his football cards with me—but keeping all his Dolphins except for doubles. Which of course made them the most desirable objects possible. So i clung to those cards (e.g., Larry Seiple, Karl Noonan, Lloyd Mumphord…these were briefly my heroes!) and became a Phinatic. And was promptly rewarded with three straight Superbowl trips that cemented me as a fan for life.

OutstandingOne was just being obstinate.

I am from San Jose CA and was in kindergarten when they Dolphins played the Niners in the Super Bowl. My family is from LA, i was the only one born in the bay area so we had no alliances to bay area teams. I decided that if everyone was rooting for the Niners, i was going to root for the Dolphins. Here I am, miserable for 40 years.

sdphinsfan was just trying to be unique.

Christmas Day, 1971. Just a kid in a house full of Chiefs fans, and decided to be different.

Miami7 followed his favorite player to the team.

January 26th, 1970. When it all began….

The DAY the Dolphins traded for my favorite player ever!

Mr. Paul Warfield

Jptapt was taken to the old rickety Orange Bowl and found their way to a lifetime of fandom.

In 1968, I was taken to a game in the Orange Bowl with a friend and his family. The fire was lit and I’ve been a fan ever since.

As we always do with this question, we got a lot of great answers. For those of you who missed our original post, please share your story of finding your way to Miami Dolphins fandom in the comments section. Thank you, as always, to those of you who read and or comment on our PQOTD posts.
