Malik Nabers is fine, Jaxson Dart’s education continues, more highlights

Big Blue View was not at New York Giants practice on Thursday, but we can still pick up some things just by paying attention. Here are some of the takeaways.

So much for Malik being hurt

So, Brian Daboll said Malik Nabers would do “stuff” during practice after Tuesday’s injury scare. He did “stuff” like this:

So, yeah, no worries about Nabers being healthy.

Your daily Dart

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart did have a couple of really nice throws on Thursday. Like this one:

Perhaps more interesting in the rookie quarterback’s development was something Daboll revealed before practice on Friday morning.

At the end of Thursday’s practice, the Giants held an unscripted period where the offense and defense called their own plays. On one play, Dart was called for delay of game. Daboll thought the play was a great learning experience.

“I actually liked his thought process,” Daboll said. “He was trying to install a play almost there on the four-yard line, something that he wanted to try. It didn’t work out so good.

“So he was explaining a few different things, but that’s good for quarterbacks to be able to do that, and signal callers. You never know what’s going to happen in a game, a call gets put in late, something happens, the headsets are down. To be able to practice a situation like that, that could come up.”

TC can’t stay away

Tom Coughlin gave a spirited post-practice speech to the Giants on Tuesday. The legendary coach was on the field again on Thursday.

A rare sight

We don’t see sprints very often at the end of a Daboll practice. I don’t think we saw them a single time in 2024. The coach could not have been a happy camper to do this:

Beaux Collins stepping forward

I have been on record saying that I believe one of the five undrafted free agent rookie wide receivers in camp with the Giants will make the roster. Right now, former Notre Dame Fighting Irish receiver Beaux Collins is the leader in the clubhouse.

Since late in the spring, the 6-foot-3, 202-pound Collins has been taking advantage of occasional first-team reps to make an impression.

“Young professional. That’s the first thing. Handles his business the right way. I’m talking about outside the building too, all the things that you’re trying to teach young players to do, take care of your body, eat right, do all those things,” Daboll said. “And then, he’s smart, he’s picked up our system really well and he’s shown toughness, and I talked about this after the draft – we kind of placed a high premium on bringing guys that have some toughness to them and I’d say he fits right in with those young guys that we picked. He’s got good size, he’s got speed, he’s got the ability to change direction for a bigger man, he’s going to have to – special teams will be important too for him. He’ll have some opportunities there.

“We’ve thrown him in with a variety of groups, the first team, the second team, the third team, and we’ve played him at some different spots. He’s progressing. He’s an interesting guy to coach because of his size and speed but his intelligence and his toughness too. I’m excited to see him continue to grow but he’s done well for himself here.”

Quote of the day
