The Linc – PFF’s secondary rankings have the Eagles in 8th

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 7/23/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

2025 NFL secondary rankings: Ravens and Chiefs take the top spots – PFF
8. Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles falling to eighth on this list might raise eyebrows, especially after the secondary’s dominant Super Bowl performance. But they lost Darius Slay and C.J. Gardner-Johnson in free agency and are looking to replace them with cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and rookie safety Andrew Mukuba. While Vic Fangio is a defensive wizard, expecting Philadelphia to immediately get plug-and-play production at the level of their predecessors is a tall order. Still, a unit returning Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean — both phenomenal as rookies — will be tough to throw against.

Eagles Rookie Review: Quinyon Mitchell’s future looks incredibly bright – BGN
Well, I am hardly going to take a victory lap on Quinyon Mitchell. He looked like a top-tier talent in college, and he carried that over with ease in his rookie year. If anything, I undersold how quickly he’d adapt to the NFL level, especially given my concerns about the transition into Fangio’s scheme. I said that longer term, I think he could be up there at the very best of his position, and I stand by that take. I see no reason to change my opinion on what I said above. I expect Quinyon Mitchell to be recognised as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL by the end of this season. I do think this season will present new challenges for Quinyon to deal with, though. For Quinyon to be recognised as one of the very best cornerbacks in the NFL, rightly or wrongly, I think he will have to get better at picking passes off at the catch point. Fair or not, picks matter when it comes to reputation.

The Eagles’ Super Bowl ring looks like a diamond-encrusted Beyblade – SB Nation
The Philadelphia Eagles unveiled their new Super Bowl ring to commemorate their win over the Chiefs, and it’s absolutely buck wild. Championship rings are always gaudy, but get a load of this thing.

2025 NFL training camp previews, projections for all 32 teams – ESPN
Biggest storyline: Do they have what it takes to repeat? Quarterback Jalen Hurts sought advice from Michael Jordan on how to go back-to-back, and coach Nick Sirianni studied the keys to sustained success this offseason. “The biggest thing is taking it a day at a time. We have these goals and you have these big dreams of what we want to accomplish, but ultimately it’s a journey,” Hurts said. Besides keeping focus, the Eagles will have to hope the personnel turnover on defense does not lead to a significant downtick in performance for a group that finished No. 1 last season. Notable players such as Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, Darius Slay, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Milton Williams are gone. It will fall to the likes of Azeez Ojulari, Kelee Ringo, Sydney Brown and Moro Ojomo to pick up the slack.

Camp Moves – Iggles Blitz
As for Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, he improves depth on the edge. Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt are the starters. Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche are the projected backups right now. Rookie Antwaun Powell-Ryland has the potential to make the roster. He is a good athlete. Patrick Johnson is a try-hard guy who could push for a roster spot, but doesn’t have the athleticism you really need to be an effective rusher. Okoronkwo is 30 years old. He has played in 80 games and has 17 career sacks. He started 13 games over the last three seasons, totaling 12.5 sacks, 26 TFLs, and 25 QB hits. He’s obviously got legit NFL ability. The Eagles wouldn’t have added an older backup if they didn’t think he could contribute. Okoronkwo could end up as a good candidate for the practice squad.

Eagles 2025 most important list: Jalen Hurts – NBCSP
Could we have put Saquon Barkley at No. 1 on this list? Sure. And after his Offensive Player of the Year season, he would have certainly been deserving. But let’s not discount the role that Hurts played in that great season. It always seems like some are quick to point out how Hurts’ surrounding cast helps him but not how he helps them. That doesn’t mean that Hurts is a perfect player. He still has his flaws. But as he enters Year 5 as the Eagles’ full-time starting quarterback, Hurts knows who he is and he knows how he wants the Eagles’ offense to look. Even with another offensive coordinator change going into 2025, Hurts is still one of the driving forces of the Eagles’ offense, and that makes him pretty darn important. Kevin Patullo will be the fourth different offensive coordinator under Nick Sirianni in five years and he’ll also be Hurts’ sixth different play caller. The good news for the Eagles is that Patullo has been around the last four years in a different role and it seems like he and Hurts already have a good relationship. Hurts, 26, is going to continue to be assertive within the offense.

The Six NFL Story Lines to Follow as Training Camps Begin – The Ringer
Which young defense in the NFC will be the next to have an Eagles-esque breakout? When Philadelphia’s offense was scuffling through the regular season, you couldn’t help but notice young star defensive lineman Jalen Carter and the rookie cornerback duo of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean becoming the foundation of what would be the best defense in the league by the playoffs. If any team has hopes of challenging the Eagles in the NFC, it will likely need to follow in the reigning champs’ footsteps and embrace a youth movement on defense. I see the Rams, Packers, and 49ers as the three teams that are most likely to take that next step. Each of these defenses has ascending young players on the verge of stardom. Training camp will give us our first opportunity to gauge what our expectations should be for each unit.

The Birds are back! The players arrived on Tuesday to take their conditioning test and have the first team meeting of Training Camp. Practice begins Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex.

Report: Terry McLaurin’s holdout continues into training camp – Hogs Haven
Terry McLaurin is looking for a new contract from the Washington Commanders, and he aired his frustrations last week. Veterans reported to camp today and Adam Peters said he expected every player to report. That holdout is continuing into training camp per a report from Ian Rapoport. McLaurin was not present for the conditioning test that players reporting today are required to take.

[UPDATE]: Micah Parsons at first Cowboys practice, but appears to be ‘hold in’ situation – Blogging The Boys
While Micah was present and accounted for during Tuesday’s practice there was some chatter about him not participating in certain things or only participating to a certain level. It would appear that this is in fact a “hold in” as Joe Trahan put it.

George Pickens: CeeDee Lamb and I are ‘like Mario Bros’ with Cowboys – NFL.com
The Dallas Cowboys finally found their Luigi to CeeDee Lamb’s Mario. Speaking Tuesday from training camp in Oxnard, Calif., new Cowboys receiver George Pickens compared himself and Lamb to the legendary Nintendo duo. “Oh yeah, for sure,” Pickens responded when asked if he and Lamb can be the best wideout tandem in the NFL. “Just different type of styles of play. A lot of people over the years got different styles of play, but CeeDee’s a certain type of guy, then I’m a certain type of guy. So, when you mesh that together, it’s like Mario Bros. We definitely can do something special.”

New York Giants signing veteran safety K’Von Wallace – Big Blue View
On the eve of their first training camp practice, the New York Giants are adding veteran depth at safety. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN was first to report that K’Von Wallace is signing with the Giants. The team has now confirmed it. Wallace, a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2020 NFL Draft, worked out for the Giants last month during their two-day mandatory minicamp. Wallace has played 71 games with 19 starts for the Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks.
