If Kyren Williams is worried about his next contract, he isn’t showing it
Kyren Williams recently completed a press conference where he appeared in good spirits despite not having any long-term contract or extension by the Los Angeles Rams past this impending season, and though those contract talks will reportedly continue, there’s nothing completed yet, however if you are the Rams or their fans, then Williams is handling this situation exactly how you would want as he continues to say the “right things”.
To be fair, Williams could outwardly talk about his lack of contract and how it concerns him, or he could “hold-in”, but so far, instead he’s chosen the route of expressing a team first mentality despite his lack of a new contract.
Williams was asked about what he wanted to see out of training camp for the Rams, and the young running back said that he’d like to see more usage of himself out of the slot, if at all possible, before also sharing that he really wants to help the team however he can.
Said Williams on his hopes for himself,
“Me personally…put me in the slot. Let me go work…in the receivers or something…”
A laugh was then shared by Williams and the crowd of media members before Williams went on to talk about wanting to see each player and individual, with the help of Sean McVay, put it all together.
“We got people who are playmakers, and who do a lot of different things differently, but you know, they’re all good. So, I’m just excited to see, you know, how coach does it ‘casue…he’s smart. He’s a genius when it comes to football, so it’s gonne be definitely fun to see.”
As far as what Williams is willing to do to help the team?
“I’m gonna do whatever it is as my number’s called.”
So, we’ll see if Williams lines up more out of the slot, in the meantime, he’s gearing up to help the team, whatever that entails. Williams goes on to explain that last year he was prepared for the amount of work he received because he trains so hard, but he was not exactly expecting to the get the volume of snaps that he took.
Whatever this season demands, Williams wants his team to know he’s ready, same as any year.
“Last year I had no expectation…of being able to…get as many snaps as I did, I had no idea, I didn’t know that but I was prepared for it…I work so hard…for me, I’m prepared for anything, I’m, ready for it.”
Whether Williams is extended or not, fans and the organization must appreciate his attitude. In what could be a drama filled situation Williams, on his end, has seemingly chosen to make it as drama-free as he can.
Will William’s strategy pay off for him? That’s the multi-million-dollar question.
