Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 7/21/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Kobie Turner: Rams have Week 3 rematch with Eagles circled after playoff defeat – NFL.com
Rams defensive lineman Kobie Turner said on NFL Network’s The Insiders last week that he’s had the Week 3 rematch with Philly circled since the schedule came out this spring. […] “So, I mean, ultimately, the thing that really got us last year is there’s a couple of big runs,” Turner said. “We stopped the run for the most part, handled it really well, but a couple of those runs where we didn’t fit it up right, where Saquon was able to get to the second level fast, and he’s super dangerous there. So at the end of the day, it’s about getting Saquon down, and that’s what we’re gonna do a lot better of this year, making sure that we stop the run on the run. And you guys saw what happened when it got to second-and-long situations, third-and-long situations, guys come to life. I mean, (Jared) Verse came to life that game crazy, (Braden) Fiske came to life, and he left early. So I’m just super excited to be able to run that back. Obviously those guys are Super Bowl champs, they won it, they deserve it and whatnot, but this year’s a new year, and man, we definitely have that game circled, I definitely have that game circled, and I’m super excited to get another crack at those guys.”

The Evolution of Jalen Hurts: Part 4 – How the Out Route Became His Best Throw – BGN
As I continue to read the news and see analysts disrespecting Jalen Hurts, I am so glad I decided to do this series! I hope I’ve managed to cover the significant areas of Hurts’ improvement. I think Hurts is one of the best throwers of an out route in the NFL right now. I can’t pretend that I study every quarterback as I do with Hurts, but I haven’t seen many players who currently throws it better than he does. There are so many examples of this route in his film over the past few years, but he didn’t always excel at it! In the early stages of Jalen Hurts’ NFL career, out routes were another issue due to the lack of timing and arm strength.

Everything you need to know as Eagles begin 2025 training camp – NBCSP
2. Another new OC. The last time the Eagles went to the Super Bowl in 2022, they lost both coordinators. At least they only had to replace one after last season. Former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore took the head coaching job in New Orleans after just one season in Philadelphia. The Eagles didn’t have to look far for his replacement, promoting passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator. Patullo has been with the Eagles since Sirianni took the head coaching job back in 2021. Several players this offseason said the change from Moore to Patullo has been less dramatic than their previous OC changes. Patullo is the fourth OC under Nick Sirianni in five seasons following Moore, Brian Johnson and Shane Steichen.

25 things I’ll be watching at 2025 Eagles training camp – PhillyVoice
4) The most interesting receiver to watch in camp this summer will be Jahan Dotson, who the team acquired as camp was wrapping up last year. He had to get ready for the 2024 season with a new team in haste, and was mostly invisible during the regular season. Dotson did eventually make a few big plays in the playoffs, and it will be interesting to see if Hurts goes out of his way to build rapport with his WR3. It’s worth noting that when A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both play in games, the Eagles are 41-10. When either Brown or Smith is out, they’re 4-4. If Brown or Smith go down at some point this season — as they both did last season — Dotson is going to have to step up and take on a bigger role in the offense. Getting him more involved in the offense this summer will make that transition easier, if needed.

Eagles’ Nakobe Dean details key factor on when he’ll return from knee injury, status for camp – Delaware Online
Dean wouldn’t say if he’s going to start out on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list when the Eagles open camp. “I can tell you right now, it was never the goal to be ready the first day of camp,” Dean said. “Could I be ready the first day of camp? And would they let me go even if I was? Probably not. Like I said, just trying to refine it and get it right.”

On Friday night, the Eagles received their Super Bowl LIX Championship Rings at a private party held at Ballers at the Battery in Philadelphia. Check out the green carpet arrivals and the reactions once the team opened the boxes to reveal the rings crafted by Jason of Beverly Hills.

2017 NFL Redraft: Rebuilding the first round based on PFF grades and data – PFF
14. Philadelphia Eagles: RB Aaron Jones, UTEP (Round 5, Pick 182). Original Pick: EDGE Derek Barnett, Tennessee. Jones is an elite running back and a necessary boost for the Eagles’ backfield ahead of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has an elite 93.8 PFF rushing grade for his career and has been the fifth-most-valuable back in the league since he was drafted. […] 18. Tennessee Titans: CB Adoree’ Jackson, USC (Round 1, Pick 18). Original Pick: CB Adoree’ Jackson, USC. The Titans stick with Jackson. He has a very good 84.5 career PFF coverage grade and is still a starting-caliber cornerback. He could be one of the starting outside cornerbacks for the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 season.

Where Did Opposing Running Backs Have the Most Success Against the 2024 Commanders? – Hogs Haven
The Commanders’ biggest weakness on defense was stopping the run. Part of that was due to facing the eight most rushing attempts. But who could fault opposing offenses for testing the Commanders’ rush defense, which gave up 4.8 yards per attempt, the fifth highest average in the league? As a result, the defense gave up the third highest rushing total in the regular season and ranked 24th in the league in opponent’s rushing success rate and 27th in EPA/play on running downs. While much of the offseason discussion has focussed on the need to replace the pass rush production that left with Dante Fowler, the Commanders biggest weakness overall in 2024 was stopping the run. And it is not yet clear whether enough was done to shore up the rushing defense to prevent a repeat in 2025. [BLG Note: The answer to the question posed in the headline is “Lincoln Financial Field.”]

Trump threatens stadium deal over Commanders’ name – ESPN
President Donald Trump is threatening to hold up a new stadium deal for Washington’s NFL team if it does not restore its old name of the Redskins, which is considered offensive to Native Americans. Trump also said Sunday that he wants Cleveland’s baseball team to revert to its former name, the Indians, saying there was a “big clamoring for this” as well. The Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians have had their current names since their respective seasons in 2022, and both have said that they don’t plan to change them back.
