Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 7/8/25
Whoever replaces Matthew Stafford will have big shoes to fill, but they also could be coming into the regime of one of the best NFL coaches in the sport. So, in theory, whoever replaces Stafford as the starter should have a chance to shine, and until it is known who that heir to the position for the Los Angeles Rams will be, speculation will continue.
Buckle up because all year throughout the NFL and college season there will be hot takes and ideas on who L.A. should consider replacing Stafford with, and then consider that the Rams have two first rounds pick in the draft and that story gets meatier.
Rams predicted to replace former Lion Matthew Stafford with highly-touted quarterback (sports.yahoo)
“With Stafford likely having just a few years left in his career, NFL Spin Zone’s Sayre Bedinger predicts the Rams will trade up in the 2026 NFL Draft and select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza in Round 1 to be Stafford’s eventual successor.
Even if the Rams are planning on keeping Stafford around for 2026, and even if Stafford plans on continuing to play, the Rams are in a great spot to bring in the heir apparent and move on to that guy whenever they see the wheels coming off for Stafford.”
I think it’s fun to speculate and I’m sure I’ll do my share, but let myself and others worry about what the Rams will do after this season while the team focuses on what they hope to accomplish in 2025.
For the Rams, the less people paying attention to what they are actually doing, while paying more attention to what they might do the better.

Ex-Rams NFC Champ Urges 5-Time Pro Bowler to Join L.A. (athlonsports)
“Come over to LA. We like you in the blue and gold,” Herring said. “You did it to us once. Now, get us one. You owe us one. We need some veteran presence in the room. We’d love to have you.”
Gilmore delivered five tackles that game. Plus picked off one Jared Goff pass. His Patriots bottled a high-powered Rams offense that evening down in Atlanta.
The CB since then has suited up for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, and more recently the Minnesota Vikings.”

Rams RB Kyren Williams Receives Unfortunate News Amid Search for New Contract (sports.yahoo)
“As ESPN released its annual Top 10 Running Backs rankings, voted on by NFL executives, coaches, and scouts, Williams was left off the list entirely. Not only did he miss the top 10, but he didn’t even receive an honorable mention. He was listed as one of the players who “also received votes.”
It’s a surprising snub for a player who finished seventh in the league in rushing yards (1,299) and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns (14) last season. Williams was the engine of a Rams offense that battled through injuries and inconsistency, helping lead the team to a playoff berth and a near-upset of the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.”
