The first Miami Dolphins player to rank on the NFL Network’s Top-100 list is quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Every year, NFL players come together to rank their top 100 players from the previous season. And like clockwork, every year, fans from around the league get upset about where their favorite players are ranked among the masses.
2024 was a weird season for the Dolphins, who fell short of expectations, finishing with an 8-9 record. They had one Pro Bowl player last season — tight end Jonnu Smith, who broke franchise records in yards (884), receptions (88), and touchdowns (8). He’s now on the Pittsburgh Steelers, just in case you were living under a rock the last few days.
But just because Miami fell short of expectations doesn’t mean they don’t have players worthy of their peers’ respect.
In years past, countless Dolphins have landed in the top 100. Last season, the Dolphins had EIGHT players in the top 100. And let’s not forget, wide receiver Tyreek Hill was the #1 player in the league after his improbable 2023 campaign. He will undoubtedly land somewhere on the top 100, but what other Dolphins players will make the list?

The first Dolphins player to land on NFL Network’s Top 100 list is QB Tua Tagovailoa, who ranks No. 91 on this year’s list. In 2024, he was ranked 36th, but his drop is not a surprise after his injury-plagued season.
Last season, Tua started 11 games for Miami (6-5), completing a career AND league-best 72.9% of his passes for 2,867 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His stats are good, but as we’ve seen before, the biggest issue with Tua is his availability, which might play into this. After all, there is no arguing how valuable Tagovailoa is to the Dolphins.
Sure, most teams would fold without their starter, but the numbers don’t lie. Miami has been dreadful when QB1 isn’t behind center. The offense is night and day. And unfortunately, in 2024, when they needed him down the stretch, it was Tyler Snoop Huntley getting the call.
Tua knows how important his health is to the team, or at least he said all the right things earlier this offseason when asked about what he was working on this offseason:::
“Doing everything I can to stay available for the guys. Like I’ve said before in the past, nothing changes with that. It’s knowing when is the time to give up on a play. I would say the longevity for me to be on the field with my guys is more important than whatever that one play is. You have more quarters than there would be within just that one play I’m trying to show the guys I’m competitive and whatnot. I know they know that, but it’s a nature thing. It just comes natural to me to compete in that sense, and that’s just the thing I fight with every time.”
In the end, these rankings are a fun way to get through the down part of the NFL offseason. But other than that, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. If Tua stays healthy, he and the Dolphins will skyrocket up the power rankings and have the entire world buzzing like they did in 2023. If not, we may have a similar result as the 2024 season — only this time, important decisions will have to be made.
But forget all that, it’s optimism season.
