Biggest question facing this team: What the hell is this team doing?
Just looking at how the Giants handled their quarterback situation says everything you need to know about their offseason. It seems every few years the Giants go all in on terrible QB roster decision making processes. You know the saying, if you have two QBs you have none… well, what if you have three?
The Giants started off the offseason signing what’s left of Russell Wilson to a one year contract. Reasonable enough “pencil in a starter on the depth chart so that it’s not completely transparent that they’re drafting a QB” move. Less than a week later, they signed Jameis Winston to a two year deal that they can easily get out of after one season. Reasonable enough “pencil in a starter on the depth chart so that it’s not completely transparent that they’re drafting a QB” move. But wait, they just did that.
Then in the draft they traded up to reach for Jaxson Dart, who will start the season as QB3. At some he will eventually start after Wilson, who has missed multiple games through injury in three of the last four years, gets hurt; and after Winston inevitably drives Brian Daboll mad after a trademark poor interception. Or maybe Daboll will have Dart jump from QB3 to QB1 like he did with Tommy DeVito so that they didn’t have to pay Drew Lock a performance bonus. If Daboll is still around by then. Whatever the result is, it won’t be a good plan.
Maybe they should have tried to address multiple positions with one player rather than one position with multiple players.
