Rams suggested to extend Quentin Lake

ESPN said re-signing Lake should be one final move by L.A. this offseason

The Los Angeles Rams are in the thick of the summer months with training camp around the corner. Much of the offseason work has been done by Les Snead and company, but as is life in the NFL, the grind never ends, and the Rams have one crucial move to make ahead of the 2025 campaign.

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz proposed one final offseason move for every NFL team, and suggested the Rams should re-sign Quentin Lake sometime this summer:

“Lake, a sixth-round pick in 2022, has become an important part of the Rams’ defense as both a safety and a nickel slot defender. He’s a big reason the Rams led the NFL in DVOA against receivers lined up in the slot last season. Lake’s rookie contract ends after 2025, and he’ll still be only 27 in 2026. It’s time for the Rams to make sure he’s around for a while.”

Last season, Lake started a career-high 16 games and appeared in all 19 games for L.A., including the postseason.

Lake is nothing spectacular in pass coverage, as evidenced by his career 64.7 completion percentage and 7 touchdowns given up from 2023-24. Yet, he is one of the few constants in the Rams’ secondary, which lacks depth across the board. Side note, adding someone like Jalen Ramsey, for example, would barely move the needle in that regard. Sorry, it had to be said.

For Los Angeles to maintain stability in the secondary, re-signing Lake would be ideal. Plus, he is the type of player who doesn’t warrant breaking the bank for. That alone should justify keeping him around just a while longer.

Also, what team wouldn’t want to retain a player who hypes up his teammate like Lake did for Matthew Stafford on “Good Morning Football”? Sounds like a Hall of Fame teammate to me, so you know what to do, Les.
