Three ways new Giants defense may look different: More takeaways, better tackling | The Athletic
The Giants haven’t just overhauled their defense; they’re fostering a youth movement. A vast majority of players in key roles for the defense this year will be 27 years old or younger when the season starts. Only inside linebacker Bobby Okereke (28), defensive linemen Roy Robertson-Harris (32) and Rakeem Nunez-Roches (32) are older.
Four of the Giants’ five presumed starters (cornerback Paulson Adebo, nickel Dru Phillips and safeties Jevon Holland and Tyler Nubin) were either draft picks in 2024 or joined in free agency this offseason. Deonte Banks, who the Giants drafted in 2023, will likely serve as the other starting outside cornerback next to Adebo, though he’ll need to beat out Cor’Dale Flott (a 2022 draft pick) for the job.

2025 NFL rookie updates: Tracking all 32 first-round picks | ESPN.com
3. Giants: Abdul Carter, DE. Explosive. That was evident from the moment Carter stepped on the field. “He looks quick,” veteran middle linebacker Bobby Okereke said of his first impression. Carter didn’t look out of place physically or mentally early in his Giants tenure so far. He was used all over the field this spring — as an edge rusher, defensive tackle and inside linebacker. If the offseason indicated anything, it’s that his usage will be something to watch this season. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen has already noted Carter’s versatility. Bowen’s job is to find a way to put the best 11 players on the field, and based on the way Carter moves, early indications are that he is clearly among them.
25. Giants: Jaxson Dart, QB. Dart had an “excellent” spring, according to Brian Daboll. The coach was especially impressed with the way Dart processed and retained information, confirming why he was a first-round pick. On his final throw of minicamp, he fired a dart deep down the right sideline for a 25-yard touchdown. It was indicative of the flashes he showed this spring. But there were also indications that he’s a rookie quarterback with plenty to learn, with him holding on to the ball too long at times. Dart began the spring taking reps with the third-team offense. Two weeks in, he was working primarily with the second team, behind Russell Wilson but ahead of Jameis Winston.
Ranking each division by quarterback heading into the 2025 NFL season | NFL.com
In many previous years, Prescott would be the unquestioned top quarterback among the four. Instead, after missing nine games in 2024, he’s third among this group, according to the year-end QBI rankings, and is going to need a strong bounceback season to usurp the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year (Daniels) and Super Bowl LIX MVP (Hurts). That’s how high the bar is in the NFC East, where Wilson’s Big Apple arrival will almost certainly be overshadowed, especially compared to the amount of attention his move to Denver in 2022 drew. More eyes will be focused on Daniels’ sophomore season and Hurts’ title defense.

Morehead State University will rename its football stadium after one of its most famous alums, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Phil Simms, on Oct. 18 (Homecoming Day). Simms was the first FCS player to be an NFL Draft pick in 1979.
Giants Russell Wilson blamed for hurting push for guaranteed deals | NJ.com
Giants quarterback Russell Wilson’s contract with the Denver Broncos angered the former president of the NFL players’ union to the point he made fun of Wilson in messages that were later used to get a lawsuit thrown out in court.
Torre said former NFL Players Association president and current chief strategy officer J.C. Tretter, a former Cleveland Browns center, was very unhappy that Wilson did not get the contract fully guaranteed and vented his frustration in text messages to former NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith.
