The Linc – Saquon Barkley among 15 most interesting NFL figures for the 2025 season

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 6/22/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

NFL’s 15 most interesting figures for the 2025 season – SB Nation
Saquon Barkley: Barkley fueled the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl winning season by putting together one of the best all-around seasons ever produced by a running back. He was dominant. We know the shelf life of running backs is a real thing, but this is Barkley’s age 28 season. So, his second season with the Eagles after darting from NFC East foe, the New York Giants, can be just as impressive. It’s worth watching. [BLG Note: Jayden Daniels also makes the list.]

14 I don’t knows from the Eagles’ spring practices – BGN
EDGE JOSHUA UCHE: Uche didn’t stand out in practice. But he did get some notable mentions during press conferences. When asked about the edge rusher position, Uche was the first name mentioned by Fangio after Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt. He also brought up Uche’s name again, along with Azeez Ojulari’s, in an answer to a broader question about the team’s defensive depth. Lane Johnson first mentioned Uche when asked if any of the Eagles’ edge rushers are standing out to him. He also talked about how Uche gave him some challenges in the past. Zack Baun said Uche is among the down-the-depth-chart players who’ve talked to him about going from relative afterthought to a bonafide star. Uche seems to realize the opportunity to reset his market. Some encouraging signs so far. But going to need to see on-field production before totally buying in.

Eagles stock up, stock down: Spring practices edition – PhillyVoice
STOCK DOWN: S Sydney Brown: Brown got first-team reps, but he had to split them rookie Andrew Mukuba. It was also probably not a great sign for Vic Fangio’s trust in Brown when Fangio said that DeJean might play some safety in the base defense.

With Philly at the center of the sports world, what does that mean for Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles? – Inquirer
So Lurie’s hopes for the Linc as a Super Bowl venue were pretty much gone, and what was left? The stadium can’t host a men’s or women’s Final Four, and if the NFL does end up following through on the (terrible) idea of playing its conference championship games at neutral sites, the Linc won’t be an option. But a domed stadium would. The idea in so many ways sounds like a nonstarter. Such a project would come with an estimated cost $2 billion to $3 billion, and that’s just an estimate. SoFi Stadium in Englewood, Calif., for instance, was supposed to cost $2.66 billion; it reportedly ended up costing $6.75 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars. What chance is there that Lurie would cover that mammoth expense himself? If Shapiro and other state politicians weren’t inclined to give the Sixers money for their arena, why would they give it to Lurie and the Eagles? Especially when the Steelers, whose stadium has been around longer, could make the case that if anyone should get a handout, it should be them? If Lurie couldn’t get around those obstacles, what would he do then?

Anti-violence football clinic makes big plays for Philadelphia youth – 6ABC
“We are taking 9 to 11 year olds, bringing…some fun but some heavy truths and sober conversations about better choices that they need to make,” said “Executive Director of Open Door Abuse Awareness Prevention,” Valencia Peterson. A Philadelphia Eagles champion even came by to encourage the kids. “I’m excited to reach these kids and…just lead the way and help them out any way I can,” said Jordan Davis of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Commanders fans feel good about the team’s deep CB group – Hogs Haven
Washington may be fielding its best and deepest cornerback group in many years. Marshon Lattimore, Jonathan Jones, Mikey Sainristil and Noah Igbinoghene were all starters in 2024. To supplement this group, Adam Peters drafted a consensus top-5 CB in Trey Amos, the 6’1”, 195 lb press corner from Ole Miss. With five quality players, three of whom have the ability to play slot, field or boundary corner positions, the Commanders are in a position to play a variety of coverages and to withstand an in-season injury or two.

How the DeMarvion Overshown situation could present some challenges for the Cowboys front office – Blogging The Boys
The Cowboys have rolled the dice on some red flag injury risks before. Both Jaylon Smith and Terence Steele received contract extensions before the existing deals expired. Each situation was different, but in both cases, the team ultimately felt they were getting a good value on a player who was still trending upward. They guessed wrong with Smith and Steele remains a TBD who is off to a slow start. The team also believed Michael Gallup would return to his 1,000-yard ways after his knee injury, but alas, it was not to be. The team was left with an underperforming receiver who was expected to fill the void of Amari Cooper at a discounted price. The Overshown situation will be a huge dilemma for the Cowboys. In a perfect world, it would be nice to wait and out and see how well he does once he’s at full strength, and who is to say if that will even come while he’s still on his rookie deal. Suffice to say, if he returns to form in 2026, he’s going to elevate his market value. The agent of Agent 0 will do everything they can to preserve his financial well-being.

Abdul Carter headlines preseason ‘All-Rookie’ defense – Big Blue View
There’s a strange feeling around the New York Giants. I know it’s not food poisoning, I did that last Halloween and I definitely don’t recommend. But is it? Could it be… Something approaching ‘hope’ or ‘optimism’? Yeah, that might be it. One of the biggest reasons for that strange “hopeful” feeling is how the Giants managed the top of the 2025 draft. They were able to not only secure Abdul Carter, who might wind up being the best player at any position in the draft, as well as their (potential) quarterback of the future in Jaxson Dart. Nobody is expecting much from Dart this year, and the hope here is that he’s a Pro Bowl clip board holder as a rookie. But Carter is a different matter entirely. He’s expected to be a major part of the Giants’ defense and help power a defensive resurgence for Big Blue. Expectations are so high for Carter that he’s headlining NFL.com’s 2025 All-Rookie defense.
