Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 6/21/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Way-too-early bold predictions for 2025 NFL season: Bills win Super Bowl; Ashton Jeanty hits 2,000 yards – NFL.com
3) The Eagles will be the first team to repeat as NFC East champs in 21 years. We know this is one of the longest-running streaks in the league, but it’s time for it to end. That’s how good Philadelphia is going to be this coming season. As much as the Eagles have to fill in some holes left by key offseason departures — the defense, in particular, lost five key veterans — the core of the defending Super Bowl champions remains very much intact. Even with Kevin Patullo succeeding Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator, that side of the football remains stacked. Running back Saquon Barkley is coming off a 2,000-yard season, quarterback Jalen Hurts proved once again that he’s one of the most underrated leaders in the game and the receivers and offensive line still rank among the best in the league. As for the defense, coordinator Vic Fangio will help some new faces mature while an assortment of stars (including defensive tackle Jalen Carter, All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun and second-year defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean) should once again rank among the best in the business. Look, this team won 16 of its last 17 games last season and pounded Kansas City in the Super Bowl. Just as importantly, a good number players were around for that epic meltdown in the second half of the 2023 season. They surely learned a lot of about the challenges of success and how hard it is to stay on top, which will come in handy this fall.

9 losers from the Eagles’ spring practices – BGN
S SYDNEY BROWN: The good news for Brown is that he’s the first man up at first-team safety next to Reed Blankenship. He has an opportunity to win that job. The bad news is that Brown had some struggles in coverage during spring practices. He’s also splitting his first-team reps with rookie Andrew Mukuba and others. I think Eagles fans seem to be higher on Brown than Vic Fangio is.

A look at the Eagles’ players over 30, and their succession plan for each – PhillyVoice
Dallas Goedert succession plan: In the 2025 draft, the Eagles made 10 selections, and surprisingly, none of them were tight ends, despite it being one of the strongest tight end classes in recent memory. They did sign a pair of veteran tight ends in free agency in Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson. They are also returning TE2 Grant Calcaterra, a decent enough receiver, but a poor blocker. Calcaterra is playing on the final year of his rookie contract in 2025. The Eagles could conceivably re-sign Goedert to a new deal next offseason if he is productive and stays reasonably healthy. We’ll see. Otherwise, they will very likely be in the market for a new tight end. 2026 urgency level: 7/10 scaredy faces.

Coulda Shoulda Woulda – Iggles Blitz
We can go play the What If game with a lot of Eagles seasons. What if TO didn’t get hurt in 2004? That injury affected the 2004 season and also future years. What if Brian Westbrook didn’t get hurt in 2003? The Eagles offense only put up three points in the NFC title game. With Westbrook as a key part of the lineup, the Eagles were a Top 10 scoring team during the season. What if Alshon Jeffrey didn’t drop the pass in 2018 against the Saints? What if the fumble didn’t get overturned in 1990? What if Correll Buckhalter didn’t get hurt in 2001? I’ve gone through all of this to help you appreciate what the 2024 Eagles did. When they had a chance for greatness, they took advantage of it. They won the Super Bowl. They carved out their piece of NFL history. Saquon Barkley had one of the greatest seasons by a RB in football history. I could throw a bunch of numbers at you, but you’d probably rather watch this video.

Eagles 2025 most important list: Tyler Steen – NBCSP
Let’s see if Tyler Steen can keep his job this year. Based on spring practices, it appears that Steen is ahead in the race to be the Eagles’ starting right guard in 2025. Of course, that looked like the case last year too. In 2024, Steen got the first-team reps in spring practices but when he suffered a minor ankle injury early in training camp, he was replaced by Mekhi Becton, who ended up starting the entire season between Cam Jurgens and Lane Johnson. But Becton left in free agency to join the Los Angeles Chargers so that right guard spot is again up for grabs. And Steen is again getting the first crack at it. “Steen has developed a lot,” Johnson said this spring. “I think when you look at him, he’s just a physically gifted dude, man. He’s a lot stronger than what he was when he first arrived. I think his playing strength is starting to show. I know he’s ready for camp to start. He’s just been putting in work. You’ve seen traits of him where he can be a dominating player so now it’s just about trying to do it every play.”

Rookie Q&A: 3 questions with Smael Mondon – PE.com
2. What do you think will be your biggest transition to the NFL? Mondon: “Being in the present. It’s me here. Whatever I do, it’s my responsibility. I am here to win a job and help this team win as many games as possible. It’s different than in college, where you have a scholarship and you’re there. There is nothing guaranteed for me here. It’s a cut-throat business. You’ve got to be on point every minute of the day. You can’t let down. My Georgia guys, when we’ve talked in the past and now, that’s a message: Be on point. You are being watched at all times.”

Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback opens tavern at Middletown-area golf club – Delaware Online
The company led by former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski hopes to score with a new tavern at his golf course near Middletown. Because Jaworski wore the No. 7 jersey with the Eagles, the new venue is called 7 Tap-Tavern at Back Creek Golf Club, 101 Back Creek Drive, off of Churchtown Road north of Middletown.

The Eagles owner was training for WWII when his team merged with the Steelers on this week in Philly history – Inquirer
The Eagles GM would call Thompson at the Army camp, at least once or twice a day, to help facilitate the delicate negotiation. Thompson had a few demands: This merged team would be called simply the Eagles, the uniforms would be kelly green and white, and they would still play a majority of the home games in Philly. He agreed to splitting expenses and any meager profits. And on June 19, 1943, the owners voted to adopt the merger, giving birth to a Frankenstein team fans later nicknamed “the Steagles.” But it only lasted one season. The Steelers would merge with the Cardinals the following year, but got back on their feet by the end of war. And Thompson returned home as a captain.

The 5 O’Clock Club: Why did average attendance at Commanders home games drop from 2023 to 2024? – Hogs Haven
Opposing fans: We know the Eagles fans have made a habit of showing up and largely ‘taking over’ Washington’s home stadium in recent years. A lot of the fans who contributed to the string of 2023 sellouts were rooting for the opposing team, especially the Bills Mafia. Cowboys fans were a lot more motivated for the Week 18 game in ‘23 than they were for that Week 12 game in ‘24. Basically, there wasn’t much danger, last season, of Cleveland, Carolina or Tennessee fans ‘taking over’ Northwest Stadium.

Dallas Cowboys offensive ranking feels way too low, defensive ranking is debatable – Blogging The Boys
PFN ranking the Cowboys offense 23rd out of 32 NFL teams feels very low. They did cover themselves by saying a “top-10 grade isn’t out of the question”, but still decided to rank them in the bottom third of the league nonetheless. This just seems way too low for a Cowboys offense that will feature one of the best WR duo’s in the entire league. Sure there are other questions about the offense, but Dallas covered their bases pretty well. They drafted the best guard in the 2025 draft class to replace Zack Martin and put together a solid RB committee, arguably upgrading the unit. [BLG Note: The feeling here is that Cowboys fans are really glossing over their bad offensive line.]

When will Jaxson Dart start? ‘Pretty darn early,’ says NFL insider – Big Blue View
Add NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah to the list of those who think this will not be a full redshirt season for New York Giants’ rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. “I think he’s got a chance to play pretty darn early here,” Jeremiah told Rich Eisen. “You just kind of listen to the words of Brian Daboll and you get the sense, this was his guy. He’s invested in him, and he seems to really, really like him … it sounds a little different the way he’s talking about him To me that makes it sound like, hey, this isn’t something that this is a redshirt year for him as they hand the ball to Russell Wilson for a full season. I think we’re gonna see a lot of Jaxson Dart this year.”

The NFL’s defensive evolution is all about speed to power – SB Nation
We can all picture it. It’s Week 12, and the Philadelphia Eagles are playing the Los Angeles Rams. Jalen Hurts goes to pass, but somehow, someone has felled the mighty Jordan Mailata at left tackle. All 6’8, 365 pounds of Mailata was put on his butt as Hurts escaped the pocket. Rookie Rams’ EDGE Jared Verse took three steps, put his hands into Mailata’s chest pad and knocked him on his ass.
