Dolphins Fans Take On Who Should Stay/Go

Dolphins fans share their insights on the future of two of Miami’s top pass rushers with the team.

With two of our top pass rushers from the Miami Dolphins returning from injury and one of them due for a new deal, I asked the following question:

If both Phillips and Chubb return and play at a high level, should the team try to keep both of them, trade one of the two, or let Phillips walk at the end of the year?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers-

Dolfanjoe thinks it can all possibly work if Quinn Ewers steps up and Tua is traded away.

Can we keep them all ? Of course we can ! Just need our rookie 7th rounder to be the Man and trade off Tua ! Every team with a QB on a rookie contract has that advantage. And those are the years that are open to you putting it together and winning the big game ! And it does not last long, fleeting at best as we saw with our rebuild. Juggling a QB on his second contract and trying to keep the Vets happy is a tough pill to swallow. We are rebuilding right now but a partial rebuild. We were not close to the big game last year and i do not believe it will change this year. But we know for a fact last years team with injuries sure was not the right combination. So here we are with a possible better team, or a worse team. Not a dam thing to worry about till 26 !

TuaTime1! says trade or let walk to Chubb.

I believe that the team should try to keep Phillips. If Chubb doesn’t trade then post June 1st cut. I play Madden as the Fins and have won 17 Super Bowls.

Miami7 wants to see if Chubb is willing to accept a lower salary to stay in South Florida.

Oh, and, maybe Chubb would consider renegotiating that deal over release?

He soiytenly isn’t gettin’ that bank from ANYBODY and the Dolphins will just release him so – if he’s happy here maybe he considers a new deal?

SuperG! believes the choice is clear.

I wouldn’t retain Chubb but I’d definitely retain Phillips

sdphinsfan would like to see the team shift more towards drafting and developing their own talent.

To be a good Defense, you have to stop the run and you have to be able to pressure the QB. If you can’t do those two things, the rest really doesn’t matter. The best scenario to make it happen cap wise is to continually grow your own. The FA guys, for whatever reason, never seem to work out on the field and they’re terrible on the books. The key is to draft guys and develop them into productive players while on their rookie deals. JP and Chop are exactly what you want (more healthy would be nice) when you’re executing the plan. Let Chubb play out the year…see what he does. Same with JP. And then see where the numbers fall. And draft Edge next spring….

tvegas897 points out that we still have a $15,699,000 cap hit this year for Xavien Howard.

This doesn’t help. One last chance Chris. You’re stinking up the joint

Alley Gator believes it’s time for the team to get younger and the front office to get smarter with how they spend the money.

We got Phillips at a ‘bargain’ price in the draft because of his injury history. Time has proven the teams that passed on him for that reason were right and we were wrong. Enjoyed watching him when he was healthy, but this team needs to get younger and cheaper. We went all in on big name vets like Chubb thinking we were close, but that opportunity has passed. We need youth and fiscal responsibility.

finfanfromsiam says go with the youth.

Keep the youngest one?

dedstrk316 seems torn.

Hawt damn this is a good question and one I didn’t think of. On one hand I have more confidence in JP than Chubb on the other hand JP can’t be counted on to be healthy. I think I’d try to trade Chubb and keep JP but I’m not comfortable about that.

MIAMI235 seems to be leaning towards Phillips.

One probably goes.

(One or more probably gets injured)

Juggling the money to pay everyone would be a challenge.

That’s our random ten comments for this evening. It seems as if, like me, the majority of fans would like to see Chubb traded or allowed to walk while keeping Phillips. That would be my choice, if for no other reason than it might be a toss-up injury-wise, but Phillips has the most upside, it seems. Thank you, as always, to each of you who joins the thread each evening and participates in our question of the day.
