Reigning MVP Josh Allen is L.A.’s Achilles’ heel according to PFF

Josh Allen put together an all-time performance last season against the Los Angeles Rams. Allen’s 6-touchdown outing, despite a losing effort, likely sealed his MVP candidacy. The Rams have to be grateful not to play Allen and the Bills in 2025, as Pro Football Focus named the star as L.A.’s Achilles’ heel.

PFF’s Dalton Wasserman had the Bills’ QB as the highest-graded player against the Rams since 2020:

“Allen has faced the Rams three times in the past five seasons, and he would probably like to do so more often. In those outings, Allen has posted a 93.4 PFF overall grade. On brand for him is the fact that he earned at least a 90.0 PFF passing grade and PFF rushing grade across the three matchups. In total, Allen accounted for 15 touchdowns, eight big-time throws and just two turnover-worthy plays.”

Los Angeles and Buffalo have played each other three times since the 2020 campaign, with the Bills holding a 2-1 advantage. The lone loss came in a 44-42 shootout at SoFi Stadium in December.

In each of those three matchups, Allen was otherworldly, averaging 3 passing touchdowns per game, 316.7 passing yards, a 71.3 completion percentage and a 121.3 passer rating. Here are the complete stats Allen put up in those games:

Week 3, 2020 (Bills won 35-32): 24-of-33 passing for 311 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception, 128.9 rating; 4 rushes for 8 yards, 1 touchdown

Week 1, 2022 (Bills won 31-10): 26-of-31 passing for 297 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 112.0 rating; 10 rushes for 56 yards, 1 touchdown

Week 14, 2024 (Rams won 44-42): 22-of-37 passing for 342 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions, 117.2 rating; 10 rushes for 82 yards, 3 touchdowns

Holy guacamole, right? Fortunately for L.A., they aren’t scheduled to face the Bills until 2028 in their new Diggs—sorry, digs. Perhaps by then, the Rams will figure out a different method of slowing down one of the NFL’s best signal callers.

Good luck with that.
