During Daboll’s tenure in the Big Apple, the Giants have gone a meager 18-32 with one playoff win. The last two seasons have been particularly treacherous, with the team finishing 9-25 while sitting 30th in offensive EPA per play. Daniel Jones’ downfall (sub-68.0 PFF passing grades in 2023 and 2024) on the heels of a $160 million extension was one of Daboll’s principal failures.
Playing in a formidable NFC East, the Giants aren’t anticipated to make significant waves in 2025. If Big Blue can win at least seven games, it may be enough for Daboll to keep his job — especially if Dart offers promise by the end of the season. But if 2025 finishes similarly to 2024 for the organization, then a cleaning of the house will be expected.

When can we expect to see Jaxson Dart as the Giants quarterback? The Giants would be wise not to throw the rookie into the fire anyway, not with their brutal schedule to start the season and one of the worst offensive lines in football to play behind.
The Giants have the hardest strength of schedule in the NFL this season. The schedule lightens up a bit in December, which is when the Giants may hand over the quarterback reins to Dart. What the Giants need to see from Dart is to execute the offense and not turn the ball over in year one, which will be a significant win for a franchise that needs a few of them.
NFL 2025 season: Best bets for Offensive Rookie of the Year award | SBNation.com
Jaxson Dart, quarterback, New York Giants: This is my favorite current bet for this award. The first-round pick is priced at 22-1. That is a great value for a quarterback. The key is that the Giants make Dart the starter early in the season to help him compile the numbers it takes to win the award. There has been no current indication of that happening. Yet, that could change quickly. Dart has been getting a lot of love for his polish and leadership in the offseason work. If coach Brian Daboll, who is entering the season on the hot seat, sees enough in training camp and the preseason to believe the job won’t be too big for Dart, he could get the job early. The Giants know what they have in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Dart is the future and it could start soon. If it does, this is fabulous value. Oh, and yes, East Coast bias is a thing in these types of votes. Take advantage of it.
Eli Manning offered sage advice to Jaxson Dart: ‘This is your journey’ | USAToday.com
“I’ve been just impressed with Jaxson, because I’ve seen him get better every single year… that’s what you want your players to do, to make improvements — even though you’re playing well, not being content and wanting to make those improvements every day. So I’ve kind of seen that,” said Manning. “It sounds like he’s doing that with the Giants. Every day, you’re going to learn something, and you’re going to make mistakes. That’s just part of it, but learning from those mistakes, not repeating those mistakes, and seems like he’s just trying to be there, earn the respect of his teammates and his coaches through his hard work.”

The tight ends had a strong showing in the passing game, beginning with a great catch by seventh-round pick Thomas Fidone II on a ball from Jaxson Dart over the middle. The rookie quarterback also dropped a nice pass in between a handful of defenders to Theo Johnson. Daniel Bellinger also made a spinning catch on a ball from Winston.
Dart showed his ability to throw on the run, rolling to his left to find wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette for a decent gain. Shortly after that, he hit wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey on the opposite sideline.
Giants’ Jaxson Dart needs to start Week 1, 3-time Super Bowl champ Mark Schlereth says | nj.com
Giants quarterback Russell Wilson will be the starter in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders, but a former NFL player believes someone else should be leading the offense. Schlereth, a three-time Super Bowl champion who won one with Washington and two with the Denver Broncos, said the best move for the franchise would be to not start Wilson.
“That’s why it makes sense to me that you start him in Week 1,” Schlereth said. “You start Dart Week 1 and you move on.”

This is all part of a premeditated approach by Daboll to solidify the culture, which last year exhibited cracks the size of the Grand Canyon during a 3-14 season.
“Yeah, it’s something I thought about at the end of the season [and] getting ready for this upcoming season. [It’s] some of the things I wanted to do,” Daboll said this past week during organized team activities. “One of those was to bring some guys in. Brought a number of them in. There will be another one [Cross] here today. [They] give a good message about what it means to be a Giant for them and some different things that hopefully mean something to our players.

100 Bold Predictions for the 2025 NFL Season | SI.com
12. Abdul Carter will finish the season with six sacks. The No. 3 pick will have a promising start to his rookie campaign, although the intensity of the Giants’ schedule will prevent Big Blue from a ton of opportunities to simply tee off on quarterbacks working in obvious throwing downs. This is part of a larger NFL trend in general that will see a shift in offensive game planning.
30. A late-season New York Giants game will feature 38 carries from fourth-round pick Cam Skattebo
58. The split of games started by Giants quarterbacks will look like this: Russell Wilson: 13; Jameis Winston: 2; and Jaxson Dart: 2
Abdul Carter, Jalon Walker, Players Most Likely to Win 2025 Defensive ROY Award | Bleacher Report
Having an outstanding athlete and a positionally versatile player such as Carter has multiple benefits for the New York defense. Carter can account for 80-plus tackles, 10-plus tackles for loss and nearly 10 sacks as a rookie, if deployed as both off-ball linebacker and pass-rusher. If he can put those numbers on his rookie end-of-year stat sheet, his case for Defensive Rookie of the Year will be hard to deny.
