Random Ramsdom: Emmanuel Forbes, secret weapon of the secondary?

Emmanuel Forbes was a late season addition to the Los Angeles Rams last year, and I believe Forbes was a former high draft pick, so the move made some waves, but probably nothing too out of this world.

After joining L.A., I don’t think Forbes did too much, but could this year be different? Will Forbes be the missing piece to help the secondary come together? Or at the very least, can Forbes make more of an impact from last year?

Emmanuel Forbes doing ‘really good job’ as he aims to turn career around with Rams (ramswire)

“The Rams claimed Forbes off waivers from the Washington Commanders late last season, adding him to their 53-man roster. Forbes is a former first-round pick who didn’t pan out in Washington, and he’s aiming to make a name for himself in Los Angeles.

“I got here late in the season so it’s kind of hard to learn the ins and outs of the defense,” Forbes said via Adam Grosbard of the LA Daily News. “So since I had a whole offseason here, been here most of the time and just learning the ins and outs of the defense, you know, I’m able to play faster and play smarter, honestly, and make plays on the ball.”

“However, NFL.com’s Eric Edholm doesn’t think the Rams have one of the most complete teams in the league in 2025. Edholm graded each position group and weighed those units based on “positional importance.” Through those calculations, Edholm determined that L.A.’s roster didn’t make the cut, although he noted that the No. 10 Denver Broncos had enough talent to squeeze past the Rams and the Washington Commanders.

The obvious reason why the Rams weren’t ranked in the top 10 is their defense. Edholm noted that he might have “put too much emphasis on defense,” and L.A. didn’t do much to upgrade the unit. The group is young and developing, but the secondary and linebacker corps are also pretty poor. They returned the same starters from 2024, and those were the weakest groups on the team.”
