Kevin Patullo talks about his new role as Eagles offensive coordinator

Kevin Patullo talks about his new role as Eagles offensive coordinator

The new Eagles offensive coordinator spoke to reporters at the start of OTAs for the first time since his promotion.

The Eagles are back to work in OTAs and new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo spoke to reporters for the first time since his promotion.

He talked about how what they do will evolve, as it does after every season, but the process doesn’t change much despite his new role. The OC explained that they’ll still be focused on trying to maximize what their players do best — something he admits that he’s already got a good handle on having been with Nick Sirianni his entire tenure in Philly.

Now, in his new roles, Patullo explained that he’s able to look at the big picture more than in his previous roles. During his time with the Eagles, he’s spent time in each of the position rooms, giving him a really good grasp on all the pieces of the offense.

Having been with Sirianni for so long now, the OC talked a bit about how they’re similar, but do have different opinions and ideas.

“We go back to the Colts, when [Nick Sirianni] and I are together. I think there’s a lot of fundamental things that we see the same way, but I do think our brains work differently, so it’s a good back and forth conversational piece that we have constantly.”

Patullo went on to say that even though they share a lot of the same beliefs, they also challenge each other to grow — but, he notes that Sirianni is always receptive to whatever is going to be best for the team.

He later spoke about his approach to playcalling, saying it’s all about putting players in positions to be successful.

“You want to make sure that they’re confident in everything they do, and you want to be confident as a coach that you put them in that position so they can go out there and do their best.”

The OC acknowledged that having so much offensive talent and consistency is huge, and this group is able to problem solve well together out on the field. All of the experience and trust they’ve built the past few years gives them a head start on figuring out how things will look in 2025.

Other notables

  • Patullo noted that the tush push ban failing was good for the Eagles, explaining that it’s a play that they work really hard on so he’s excited that it’s something they can continue to use.
  • The OC had a lot of complimentary things to say about new Eagles QB coach Scot Loeffler, who he said has been great to work with and is someone who is very detailed in their preparation.
  • He was appreciative of the opportunity to work with Kellen Moore in 2024. Patullo said that it’s nice to get a chance to work with someone new, with new ideas, and they worked really closely to merge the Eagles offense with what Moore had success with. That experience allowed the new OC to ask a lot of questions and learn new things.
  • The OC said that he’s very happy to have Dallas Goedert back this season after some uncertainty this spring, but the TE brings a different element to the offense and his presence is felt.
