The Linc – The Eagles’ top bounce-back candidate

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/27/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

One bounce-back candidate for all 32 NFL teams in 2025 – PFF
Philadelphia Eagles: ED Bryce Huff. Huff’s first season in Philadelphia couldn’t have gone much worse. He lost his starting job by Week 9 and was a non-factor during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run. His 15.0% pass-rush win rate marked a steep decline from his production with the Jets. However, with Philadelphia losing edge defenders Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham this offseason, Huff will have another opportunity to prove he can provide meaningful pass-rush value in 2025.

Eagles begin OTAs: 17 things to watch, from Kevin Patullo’s passing offense to position competitions to Kelee Ringo’s chance to start – PHLY
Bryce Huff in Year 2. On the other end of the spectrum, what can the Eagles expect from Huff this season? At this time last year, he was a key player to watch in camp. Now, it’s uncertain if he’ll have a role on the Eagles this year. It could be a James Bradberry-like situation from last year. Of course, there’s a chance Huff looks like the player the Eagles valued at $17 million per year. You don’t see much from edge rushers during camp, but Huff is worth watching.

Could this Eagles’ free agent bust revitalize his career during OTAs or will he get traded? – NJ.com
Edge rusher Bryce Huff. Despite being one of the team’s worst players last season, Huff still has an opportunity to crack the Eagles’ pass-rush rotation in 2025. The contract (three-year, $51 million) he signed last offseason makes it difficult for the Eagles to trade him, which is probably what the team would like to do. For that reason, it’s likely that Philadelphia will bring him back for another season.Tight ends took Huff out of the run game last year, exposing his weakness in that area. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio could make him a designated pass rusher in a last-ditch attempt to save his career.

Eagles 53-man roster prediction as OTAs begin – BGN
EDGE RUSHER: Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Azeez Ojulari, Joshua Uche, Antwaun Powell-Ryland (5) [31]. Smith got better and better as the 2024 season went along. We’ll see if he can make another developmental leap from Year 2 to Year 3. Hunt also got better with more playing time as a rookie. The Eagles are counting on him becoming a regular contributor in their edge rusher rotation. If Ojulari can stay healthy (a big if), he can be a solid player for the Eagles. Uche previously showed potential to get after the quarterback but he can’t be considered a roster lock. APR was simply too productive in college to be a total non-factor in the NFL. I left Bryce Huff off here because I just don’t think Vic Fangio trusts him to play. I could see Huff getting traded or the Eagles treating him like James Bradberry last year where he spends the entire season on injured reserve. One of Patrick Johnson, Ochaun Mathis, or KJ Henry could conceivably earn a roster spot with a strong summer.

25 intriguing Eagles to watch at 2025 OTAs – NBCSP
RS/RB Avery Williams: The Eagles officially list Williams, 26, as a return specialist but he has played on both sides of the ball during his NFL career. With the Eagles, Williams will play on offense in addition to his return duties. Nick Sirianni at the NFL owners meetings in March seemed especially excited about Williams and that’s enough for us to keep our eyes on him.

NFL owners could be taking aim at a far bigger Eagles advantage than the ‘Tush Push’ – PhillyVoice
At the risk of jumping to a conclusion, it feels a lot like the cheap owners saw the Eagles maximize their spending all the way to a Lombardi Trophy, and they don’t want to have to do the same to be able to compete.

Let The OTAs Begin – Iggles Blitz
Speaking of QBs, all four of the Eagles signal-callers have something to show. Hurts was inconsistent early last season. He’s got a new offensive coordinator. It would be good to see him get off to a strong start. Tanner McKee is the top backup. That should get him fired up, but can make some guys nervous. Dorian Thompson-Robinson and rookie Kyle McCord will be battling for the #3 spot. DTR has more experience and athleticism. McCord is the more skilled passer. The young DBs will get a chance to show what they can do. Kelee Ringo will probably get the key reps at LCB. Sydney Brown and rookie Andrew Mukuba will be battling for a starting safety spot. Rookie Mac McWilliams will try to show what he can do, primarily in the slot. There will be competition at several spots. No one is going to win a job in May. The players can help themselves if they get off to a good start. Beyond that, we might get answers to some questions. Who will get the first reps at RG? Where will Avery Williams be lining up? Is Bryce Huff still alive?

NFL Football Power Index: 2025 projections, Super Bowl chances – ESPN
Eagles top the NFL’s elite group. The NFL’s 2025 oligarchy consists of a clear top tier: the Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens, Lions and Bills. These teams are separated by at most a single point in FPI rating, meaning none of them would be favored by more than a single point over another on a neutral field. But there’s a drastic, 1.8-point drop-off between the No. 5-ranked Bills and the No. 6-ranked Commanders. The common theme between the top five teams? Offensive strength. That’s right, the “defense wins championships” cliché isn’t reflected here. Offense is more stable from game to game and season to season, so teams with the best past quarterback and offensive production are more likely to repeat that success. That’s critical because the point of the FPI is to look ahead, not back. It’s no coincidence that the top five teams also have the five best offenses according to the FPI, albeit in a different order. But it’s not all offense — the defending champion Eagles are oh-so-slightly in the overall lead because they also have the best defense. With linebacker Zack Baun back to anchor the middle and ascending young talent such as defensive tackle Jalen Carter and cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, Philly’s defense sets it apart.

Spadaro: With OTAs underway, Eagles take critical step forward in 2025 preparation – PE.com
Step by step. Sometimes, it reeks of repetition. Most days, it is sensory and information overload, intentionally so. The challenge is to stay on course and climb the seasonal ladder with the same purpose, intensity, and focus each day. And then do it again tomorrow. For the Philadelphia Eagles, the celebration of winning Super Bowl LIX is long, long over. As the team’s Organized Team Activities began on Monday at the NovaCare Complex, the 2025 Eagles were collectively pointed at the task right in front of them, and that’s it. “The process is always the same, honestly, regardless of whether we won or not,” wide receiver A.J. Brown said last week. “It’s always watching film, trying to rediscover yourself and to get better and find ways to get better. You have to grow in this league. If you don’t, you’ll get exposed. “As a team, just growing. Pushing each other each and every day. Not worrying about the results at the moment, but just worrying about the effort.”

Eagles’ star wide receiver DeVonta Smith brings charity softball game to Lehigh Valley – Delaware Online
Tickets are on sale now for DeVonta Smith’s fourth annual charity softball game featuring NFL stars. The event will take place on June 28 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania, home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Gates open at noon with the game starting at 3 p.m. The day will begin with a meet-and-greet by Smith before the game. Fans can buy tickets to meet and take pictures with the NFL star, as long as they have a ticket to the game. No autographs are allowed. Tickets are $250.

The 5 O’Clock Club: Who will be Washington’s swing tackle in 2025? – Hogs Haven
In the NFL, a “swing tackle” is a backup offensive tackle who can play either the left or right tackle position. This versatility allows a team to have a reliable player ready to fill in at either spot if needed, whether due to injury or strategic adjustments. Essentially, the swing tackle is a versatile piece of the offensive line that can handle both left and right tackle duties. In recent years, veteran tackle Cornelius Lucas filled the role quite capably. With Lucas no longer on the roster, there’s a question about who the Commanders can rely on to fill this role. Per Pro Football Focus, here are the career snaps taken at each line position by all of the tackles currently on the roster aside from LT Laremy Tunsil and rookie Josh Conerly.

Cowboys history shows reaching the playoffs as a first-year head coach is a coin flip – Blogging The Boys
We all know that Jason Garrett was afforded a lot of time with the Cowboys and to his credit (sort of) he had the team in contention for a playoff berth in the final game of each of his first three seasons. They just happened to lose all three of those. Oops. Dave Campo remains the only head coach in team history to never take the team to the playoffs at all so he is clearly the outlier here. Obviously Tom Landry took over the team at the beginning so it is difficult to properly compare things, but it stands to reason based on most of this century that a playoff appearance in the first two years is to be expected (this also feels like a fair ask). A lot has to go right in order for an NFL team to reach the playoffs. Brian Schottenheimer needs to make sure to pull all of those levers. He can make a bit of history if he does so.

Better or worse in 2025? New York Giants defensive line – Big Blue View
There is undeniably more depth on the line than perhaps at any time in the Schoen-Daboll era. A year after adding only undrafted free agent Elijah Chatman to the line, Schoen was aggressive. The third-round pick used on Darius Alexander was the highest draft pick used on a pure defensive lineman in Schoen’s four seasons as general manager. The three-year, $18 million contract ($12 million guaranteed) was his biggest free agent defensive line signing in those four seasons. Veterans Roy Robertson-Harris and Jeremiah Ledbetter were signed for rotational depth. Rakeem Nunez-Roches, a rotational player thought to be a potential cap casualty, has — to this point — been retained. The Giants did find a couple of young players last season — Chatman and Elijah Garcia — who can be useful parts of a successful defensive line. There should be true competition for both roster spots and playing time, and far more real help for Dexter Lawrence than he has had since Leonard Williams was dealt to the Seattle Seahawks at the 2023 trade deadline.

USA flag football players deserve their shot vs. NFL stars for 2028 Olympics roster spots – SB Nation
I think there’s a simple solution for this: have the best flag football players play against the NFL select team for the chance to be on Team USA. In almost every other Olympic sport, there’s the qualifying period, where you have to tryout to make the team. A series of flag football games where the winning team chooses two players to make the national team. It would bring eyes to the competition and still give flag players the chance to go and represent their country. Let’s make sure not to forget those that brought flag football to this moment when we discuss this.
