An update on the veteran.
When the Cincinnati Bengals released their schedule release video, one notable takeaway was veteran defensive tackle B.J. Hill in a walking boot.
In the early portion of OTAs, head coach Zac Taylor said that it was just precautionary.
This week, Taylor said that he doesn’t necessarily have a timeline for Hill, but it could be sooner than later.
“Good you know, offseason program’s not a time that we’re going to rush through anything,” Taylor told reporters. “Unfortunately, he’s not out there right now. It’s getting some young guys some really valuable reps. He’s still there in a leadership role. He’s still there in the meetings. He’s showing up every single day.
“So, from a timing standpoint, when something like this is going to happen…you know, it’s unfortunate, but we’ll work through it with him.”
While Hill sits, it is a good time for second-year defensive tackles Kris Jenkins Jr. and McKinnley Jackson to get extra reps ahead of training camp, which it sounds like Hill could be back for.
Taylor said, “I hate to throw stuff like that out there, but I think it’s more short-term than long-term for sure,” which makes it seem like Hill should be good for training camp, barring any setbacks.
Hill was a priority for the Bengals this offseason, signing a deal to return to the team on the first day of the legal tampering period and it appears he should be set to take the field Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.
