Other Giant observations
The Giants need more salary cap space. Here’s how they can free some up | The Athletic
The New York Giants have just $1.6 million in salary cap space, the lowest amount in the league according to the NFLPA. That will surely change soon because $1.6 million isn’t nearly enough cap space to sign their draft class. The Giants will also need additional cap space down the road for in-season expenses, including the practice squad and injury replacements.
The Giants will need cap space when they start signing their top picks. No. 3 pick Abdul Carter’s contract will carry an $8.2 million cap hit and No. 25 pick Jaxson Dart will have a $3.1 million cap hit.

3. Jaxson Dart, New York Giants: 1,968 yards, 10 TDs (9 starts). Dart will begin his career behind Russell Wilson and perhaps also Jameis Winston, but history suggests the No. 25 pick will make a Year 1 impact. From 2011 to 2024, 38 of 47 first-round QBs (81%) took over as the starter prior to Week 10. Twenty-three (49%) started in Week 1, including Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix last season. Of the seven QBs picked in the 20-32 range, six played as rookies and four took over before Week 5.
T-1. Abdul Carter, Edge, New York Giants: 6.0. Carter, the No. 3 pick, might eventually emerge as one of the league’s best defenders, but he will likely begin his career in a rotation with Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

3. Brian Daboll (New York Giants). Giants ownership gave a vote of confidence to Daboll (and general manager Joe Schoen) last season, despite going 3-14 and having one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Daboll is 9-25 in the two seasons since leading the Giants to the playoffs and winning a playoff game in his first season as the head coach (2022).
The Giants have a brutal schedule, yet have a better roster than last season. If the offensive line can be competent, New York may double its win total from 2024. Daboll can’t go on a massive losing streak like he did in each of the last two seasons, or he’ll be looking for a new job come 2026.
The reality about the Giants’ daunting schedule | New York Post
The way the strength of an NFL schedule is determined is to rate the opponents on the schedule by how they fared the previous season.
This is standard operating procedure. With that list of opponents clear, we may think we know how a certain team will do in the upcoming season, but no one can be sure.
Giants’ defense must ‘be dominant’ to ‘survive’ brutal schedule, says two-time Super Bowl winner | NJ.com
Former Giants linebacker Jonathan Casillas sees “potential to be dominant” in the Giants’ big defensive additions — cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland in free agency, and then edge rusher Abdul Carter at No. 3 in the draft.
“This is starting to look like those Giants defenses that frustrated the GOAT [Tom Brady] in the Super Bowl,” he said. “I’m not comparing them to those guys, because they didn’t do it yet. But on paper, this is the type of [defense] that can really help if the offense struggles early. With this brutal schedule, the defense needs to be dominant. If their defense is not dominant, I don’t know if they can survive this gauntlet of a freaking schedule that’s in front of them. They have to be dominant.”

What the national scouts saw in 2025 draft class | Giants.com
Carter threw one wrinkle at the scouting community, though. Similar to his mentor Micah Parsons, Carter moved from off-ball linebacker to the edge. The results, again, spoke for themselves as he became the third overall choice last month.
“When he’s inside, you see the instincts, you see the strength, you see the way he goes after the ball,” said Jeremy Breit, a national scout entering his 20th season with the Giants. “Then when he went to the edge this year, he showed off everything that he has. That explosiveness off the edge, it’s the top in the draft. To me, it’s the top of any draft. He’s a top player in any draft that you look at. The guy can win one-on-ones, and that’s what you look for coming off the edge. The bend, the dip, the explosiveness, he can do it all.”

TIER 3: 12. Malik Nabers, New York Giants. Nabers was outstanding in his rookie season despite inconsistent quarterback play. He earned an 87.1 receiving grade — ninth best in the league — and averaged 2.17 yards per route run, an impressive mark for a first-year receiver that suggests even greater production as the offense improves around him.
