Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
Jalen Hurts may have another new offensive coordinator, but the Eagles QB will stand on his own feet – Inquirer
With Patullo, the Eagles are expected to maintain much of Moore’s offense and his verbiage. But, in truth, the final product was never quite close to previous iterations of his scheme. He brought new elements to the passing game, and to how it married with the ground game. But the offense reverted back to more of what Hurts was comfortable doing when it was decided after a 2-2 start to emphasize Barkley and the run game. And that meant reinstalling some of the Sirianni-Steichen scheme that had supposedly gotten stale in 2023. Patullo will bring his own thoughts to the table. Hurts said there are “some nuances.” Sirianni brought Patullo to Philadelphia in the first place to help with the run-pass option game. But as Hurts enters his fifth season as the starter, it’s essentially his offense more than anyone’s, even if Barkley, receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, et al., also factor into design. And Patullo should understand that.
Eagles Film Review: Smael Mondon Jr. has the traits to develop into more than a backup – BGN
I think Mondon is an interesting option as a subpackage defender early in his career. He has legitimate speed and athleticism, and Vic Fangio might use him sparingly in obvious passing downs where he can drop into coverage or blitz from depth. I am always a fan of having aggressive and fast options on defense, and Mondon gives the defense and special teams unit another young, fast option. It’s hard to complain about this one! If he can get physically stronger and bigger, he has the traits to develop into more than a backup. I’ll be interested to watch his development over the next few years.
Jason Kelce offers to talk to owners to clear up misconceptions about the tush push – PFT
Kelce said on his New Heights podcast that he wanted to travel to the owners’ meeting in Minnesota so that he could explain that his comments about the tush push were in no way intended to suggest it’s a dangerous play or was a factor in his retirement. “I’m actually going to Minnesota,” Kelce said. “There were some things said at the last owners’ meeting, some of the owners and coaches hinted that the reason I stopped playing was because of the tush push, and that I got hurt on the tush push frequently. I’m just going to answer any questions people have about my partaking in this play. I don’t care whether it gets banned or not. At the end of the day, this is why you vote on things, and if they vote to ban the tush push, the Eagles are still going to run a quarterback sneak at a very high percentage. I’m just going to offer, if anybody has any questions about the tush push, or whether I retired because of the tush push, I’ll tell you, I’ll come out of retirement today if you tell me, ‘All you gotta do is run 80 tush pushes to play in the NFL.’ I’ll do that gladly. It’ll be the easiest job in the world.”
Most/least vulnerable NFL division champs: Chiefs to repeat in AFC West? Lions in trouble? – NFL.com
3) Philadelphia Eagles. It’s been more than two decades since the NFC East had a repeat winner (the Eagles held the title from 2001 through 2004), and Philadelphia could be in a dogfight to hold on to the crown again this season. The Commanders are a team on a very rapid rise, and whatever unsteadiness Jayden Daniels showed in his rookie season should be improved in 2025, especially because he will be behind an improved offensive line and have Deebo Samuel to target in addition to Terry McLaurin. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman conducts a clinic in roster replenishment, but he did lose plenty of big-name talent on defense. Philadelphia had one of the most balanced rosters in the NFL last season, and the team still has an extraordinary cast of offensive weapons. This place in the ranking is a reflection not of any thought that the Eagles will take a significant step back — they almost certainly won’t, barring injury disasters to Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley — but of their current reality. They have an in-division rival who is coming on strong and NFL history is on the side of a change at the top.
Eagles weigh in as they wait to hear fate of Tush Push – NBCSP
With the fate of the Eagles’ signature play hanging in the balance, some Eagles seemed generally unbothered by the chance that it could be taken out of the game this week. “In terms of them banning the Tush Push, I hate that name,” left tackle Jordan Mailata said on Tuesday afternoon ahead of OTAs. “So I hope they do ban it. It’s a stupid name.” The Eagles obviously don’t want the Tush Push — maybe Mailata would prefer Brotherly Shove? — to get banned. Their signature version of a quarterback sneak has been their most successful play in recent years and they’ve perfected it, while others simply haven’t. The Eagles could get all bent out of shape as the Tush Push remains under attack this week, but it’s out of their hands. “We can’t control that so we don’t even worry about that,” Mailata said. “Right now, we’re just installing our schemes. Whatever [offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo] is installing that day, that’s what we’re focused on. Because worrying about whether they’re going to ban the Tush Push or not ain’t going to win us another championship. What we do every day here matters.”
Spadaro: With contract extension complete, Nick Sirianni dives in on 2025 challenge – PE.com
Expectations renewed, higher than ever. “You can it enjoy it for a little bit, but you gotta turn the page quickly because we’ll have a high standard for ourselves, I know you all (media) will have a high standard for us and we will have a high standard for us,” Sirianni said. “It takes steps and that’s mental toughness. I talked about this with the players today. I think a lot of times when I talk to them I tend to talk to them about mental toughness. I talk to them about overcoming adversity and that’s a big part of mental toughness, but another part of this mental toughness thing is going through the monotonous things over and over and over again and having the same attitude and effort no matter what the circumstances are.” Sirianni’s growth has also been guided by his frequent conversations with current and former coaches in many sports, and leaders of people, as he has worked to improve himself. There have been adversities and, certainly, always pressure, and Sirianni has kept growing and building and living in the moment. That the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX is something that is indelible, incredible, and, obviously, life-changing. But it is in the past. Sirianni is building his football team for 2025.
Jordan Mailata: We can’t control tush push vote, so we don’t worry about it – PFT
Wide receiver A.J. Brown wasn’t the only Eagles player to shrug at a question about the possible ban of the tush push on Tuesday. There is expected to be a vote of team owners about the Packers’ revised proposal regarding the play at the league meetings on Wednesday. Approval of the proposal will take the vote of 24 teams and would reinstate the pre-2006 rule banning the pushing or pulling of a ballcarrier by their teammates. Left tackle Jordan Mailata said “we’ll go without the push” if the proposal passes and that the team is more focused on what new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo is installing than on what’s going on at league meetings.
Teams Helped & Hurt By NFL Schedule: Lions, Commanders & More – Sharp Football Analysis
Since 1990, only six teams total played 6+ games with a rest advantage in a season. It didn’t happen to a single team last year. It is happening to three teams this year alone (Lions, Eagles, Cowboys). Meanwhile, three teams play no more than one game with a rest advantage (Titans, Colts, Raiders). The Detroit Lions are the most exceptional example of a team playing an incredible amount of games with a rest advantage that we’ve seen in NFL history. This year, the Lions play eight games with a rest edge over their opponent. If this sounds like an anomaly, it absolutely is. No team in NFL history has played more than six games with a rest advantage in a season. If the Lions played seven such games, they would set the record. But the Lions have an NFL record eight games with a rest edge over their opponent. Think about it from this perspective: nearly HALF of the Lions’ 2025 games have them playing at a rest advantage.
The 5 O’Clock Club: 2025 Commanders have 3rd-worst “net rest days” in NFL per Sharp Football analysis – Hogs Haven
This year’s analysis is generally a bit kinder to the NFL than last year’s; in 2024, Sharp declared that the NFL had created the most imbalanced schedule in league history. This year, he sees some overall improvement. The news is a bit worse for Washington. In 2024, Sharp found that the Commanders were in a 3-way tie for the 9th-worst net rest days at -2. This year, he finds that Washington has the 3rd-worst situation at a hefty -13.
Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer: Micah Parsons has been ‘in and out’ ahead of voluntary OTAs – Blogging The Boys
With regards to any kind of holdout, as noted, Parsons has not seemed willing to go down that path. While that may be true, this does not guarantee that he will do anything on the field during any kind of voluntary window like OTAs.
Better or worse? New York Giants offensive line – Big Blue View
I do believe the line will be better. That doesn’t mean top-tier, but it means good enough for the offense to function at an acceptable level. Thomas’s health is, of course, the key. While the Giants did not make any big offseason splashes on the line, they did add veteran depth at tackle, a promising young player in Mbow, and it looks like we will finally find out if Neal can be a useful guard. The line is improved enough on the margins that I am optimistic about how it will perform in 2025.
NFL approves players for 2028 Olympics flag football. Here are our USA roster predictions – SB Nation
NFL owners officially voted in favor of NFL players trying out for flag football in the 2028 Olympics, something that has been brewing for this entire offseason. In a 32-0 vote, the league now lets players live out their dreams of getting an Olympic gold medal.
Lions withdraw proposal to change NFL playoff seeding – ESPN
The Detroit Lions have withdrawn their rule proposal that would have seeded the playoffs by record and not guaranteed division winners a home game. NFL owners had been set to vote on the proposal at the league’s spring meeting on Wednesday.
