For years, it was common for Miami Dolphins fans to lament the media’s overall disrespect for the team. Even though I am a passionate fan, I have often questioned what my team has done to earn anyone’s respect during most seasons. The team was certainly respected and perhaps even feared during Dan Marino’s era as quarterback, but that was when betting on the team making the playoffs and possibly winning a game that season was often a safe bet. Ever since Don Shula and Dan Marino retired, the team has gone through a long list of head coaches and starting quarterbacks, and no combination has really seemed to get it 100% right or at least 100% going in the right direction.
Now, I am not saying things are dire, but some still believe the team is disrespected. I have seen some who say that the team will end the season in last place in the AFC East. Most do not seem to expect the team to make the playoffs as it is currently constructed. I am not sure that the team is so bad that they are last in the division, but it’s also not seemingly the most inconceivable thing at this time. As far as making the playoffs, that’s possible, but I believed that they would make it many a season, including last season, only to once again, for the I don’t know how many times at this point, disappoint me.
So tonight’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:
Do you believe that the media constantly disrespects this item, or is at least doing so right now? If so, do you think the team deserves more respect than they are currently receiving, and why? If you believe that the team is disrespected, what are the underlying reasons beyond the fact that they failed to make the playoffs? Do you believe there is possibly a bias against the city of Miami as a whole when it comes to its sports teams?
