SCHEFTER: More Teams Interested in Trading for Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey Than Originally Thought

SCHEFTER: More Teams Interested in Trading for Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey Than Originally Thought

Could a blockbuster trade for Miami’s disgruntled cornerback happen in the coming weeks? ESPN’s Adam Schefter certainly believes so.

The Miami Dolphins and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey could be nearing a divorce in the coming weeks, and interest in the 30-year-old Super Bowl Champion could be more significant than initially thought.

According to ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, ‘there’s more interest in Jalen Ramsey than people realize.” He’d also say that any trade that transpires wouldn’t be officially processed until June 1st, which is something many Dolphins fans assumed at this point.

The reason a trade did not happen during the 2025 NFL Draft, and likely won’t happen until Post-June 1st, is because if Miami moves Ramsey before June 1st, they’d be on the hook for his full $29.2 million, resulting in a cap loss of $ 12.5M in 2025. However, Spotrac says, “If the trade is processed after 6/1, $29.2M would be split as $10.7M in 2025, $18.5M in 2026, representing a $5.9M cap savings for the upcoming season. All of this dead cap derives from previously paid out signing/roster bonus.”

I don’t know how much better this sounds when you factor in that Miami made Ramsey the highest-paid cornerback in football without seeing that type of player on the field. Sure, he was good — but the best? Those days are looooonnnnngggg gone, in my honest opinion. But that still doesn’t mean he isn’t a valuable asset to a contender.

What Teams Might Be Interested in Trading for Jalen Ramsey

The Rams have been linked to Ramsey this offseason, mainly because General Manager Les Snead and Head Coach Sean McVay can’t stop saying nice things about their former player. They have even spoken publicly about their interest in bringing him back to LA, but admitted that any trade would be complicated.

Other teams also have shown interest, according to former Miami Herald beat writer Armando Salguero, who now writes for Outkick. Salguero has reported that the Dolphins have spoken with the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders, and Philadelphia Eagles, among others.

Maybe this is the ‘interest’ Schefter has discussed, or perhaps even more teams have inquired about the star defender. That we may never know, but what we do know is that the relationship between Ramsey and the Dolphins appears to be irreparable. And with the new team taking on a portion of his contract, the draft capital that Miami may get in return might fall short of the original trade, which sent tight end Hunter Long and a third-round pick to the Rams.

Once Ramsey is out the door, the Dolphins will likely look towards free agency to bring in a veteran cornerback that can play opposite of CB1 Kader Kohou. The team has been linked to Rasul Douglass this offseason, and many have suggested Asante Samuel Jr., as well. Whoever they decide to bring in will likely be forced into a starting role, considering Miami’s current cornerback room consists of Cam Smith, Storm Duck, Artie Burns, Kendall Sheffield, Ethan Bonner, Isaiah Johnson, Jason Maitre, and fifth-round pick Jason Marshall Jr..

Add in all the uncertainties at safety, and I am extremely pessimistic about Miami’s secondary, but as I’ve repeated time and time again, #InAnthonyWeaverWeTrust.

What are your thoughts on Adam Schefter’s most recent report, which says there’s more interest in Jalen Ramsey than people realize? Do you think this could cause a bidding war, resulting in better draft capital for Miami? Which of Miami’s young corners will take the next step in 2025? Let us know in the comments section below!
