The Linc – Most underrated player on the Eagles’ roster

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/14/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Most underrated player on all 32 NFL teams ahead of the 2025 season – PFF
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: S Reed Blankenship. On a Super Bowl-winning roster, there will always be some unsung heroes whose contributions might get overlooked, and Blankenship stands out. As a former undrafted free agent, Blankenship has assumed a locked-in starter over the past two seasons and delivered an 87.2 PFF coverage grade, which ranks eighth among 129 qualifying safeties since 2022.

Preseason All-NFC East team: Defense edition – PhillyVoice
Safety: Jevon Holland, Giants; Reed Blankenship, Eagles. C.J. Gardner-Johnson (6 INTs) and Reed Blankenship (4 INTs) combined for 10 INTs in 2024. No other safeties in the NFC East had more than two. CJGJ was probably the best safety in the NFC East before the Eagles traded him to Houston. Blankenship is a sure tackler and he gets his hands on a lot of footballs (7 INTs, 17 PBUs the last two seasons). He’s in. Holland signed with the Giants on a three-year deal worth $45 million. Over his four-year career in Miami, Holland had 301 tackles, 5 sacks, 25 pass breakups, 5 forced fumbles, and 5 INTs. He’s a good player, but those stats don’t scream, “Pay this guy $15 million/year” to me. Still, he’s probably better than the other vets in the division.

Eagles Film Review: Mac McWilliams could be an Avonte Maddox replacement – BGN
For the next couple of years, I see McWilliams as the ultimate ‘next man up’ player who can come in and replace Cooper DeJean if he gets hurt or take reps on the outside if something happens to the starters. He should take the Avonte Maddox role this season. He may ultimately be good enough to develop into a starting cornerback in a couple of years, but for now, I see him as a very reliable backup who can play in a number of positions. If I had to let him develop full-time somewhere, I think his future will be as a slot corner. I think he’s an intriguing prospect who could be a valuable piece for this Eagles’ defense over the next few years.

The NFL wants the 2025 schedule release to be a massive deal, but is it? – SB Nation
RJ Ochoa: It was announced bright and early on Monday morning that the Dallas Cowboys, aka my team, will be visiting the Philadelphia Eagles in the league’s kickoff game on Thursday, September 4th. Outside of how annoying Eagles fans are going to be about it all… I absolutely love this. Why do I love this? Regardless of what happens in the first game of the year, the Cowboys are winning by the way, and my first Sunday is now open and available to hang out with Scott Hanson all day on the Redzone Channel. The absolute best day of the week for your team to play is any day other than Sunday so that you can enjoy all of the action without having to focus. Nobody can convince me of any other potential truth.

Messaging Matters – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles certainly aren’t perfect. They have pissed off their share of players over the years. But they generally do a good job of separating business and personal. The Eagles generally pay well so players know this isn’t penny-pinching for the sake of it. This is just business. Give Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni credit for having strong relations with the players so they can work through issues when they arise.

NFL schedule: Bears-Commanders, Eagles-Chiefs among top 10 revenge games in 2025 – NFL.com
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES vs. WASHINGTON COMMANDERS: This has always been a spirited rivalry, but the stakes were raised last year when the Commanders made a surprise run to the NFC title game behind Jayden Daniels — only to fall to Philly in a 55-23 laugher. I’m sure every team in the NFC East still wants to beat Dallas desperately, even with the Cowboys coming off a 7-10 record. But you know Dan Quinn is going to have his team ready for both matchups in this series, especially after Washington’s Eagles-esque moves to beef up in the trenches this offseason. And the addition of Deebo Samuel should certainly help.

Why Eagles-Chiefs is best AFC-NFC rivalry in history and the record they’ve already broken – NJ.com
NFC teams aren’t supposed to face AFC teams every season. The Eagles, for instance, have never played another AFC team more than two years in a row and they’ve never played 10 of the 16 teams from the other conference two years in a row. But this will be the fifth straight season the Eagles have faced the Chiefs, thanks to their two Super Bowl meetings in the last three years. The teams already set the record for most consecutive seasons that an NFC and AFC opponent have met when they played each other in last season’s Super Bowl.

Eagles’ active slate of standalone games makes tush-push ban more likely – PFT
Regardless, the tea leaves already hinted that the ivory tower is coming down on the tush push. The fact that at least four — and likely more — Eagles games will be played at a time when many are watching will only make it more likely that sufficient arms will be twisted to torpedo the tush push. And then the Eagles will revert to running a highly effective quarterback sneak, creating basically the same results.

NFL Schedule Release Rumors Tracker: Washington Commanders open the season at home against the New York Giants – Hogs Haven
The NFL schedule leaks, rumors, and reports have started, and we should have most of the schedule penciled in before the Washington Commanders announce theirs at 7:45 pm tomorrow night. The NFL will officially release the entire season’s schedule at 8 pm as part of their 2 hour release program, but will be officially announcing some games starting on Monday.

Cowboys schedule 2025: Dallas to host Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day – Blogging The Boys
Typically the NFL does not necessarily give the Cowboys a huge opponent on Thanksgiving given that people are going to watch no matter what. The theory is that there is no need to burn something significant that could be wisely utilized elsewhere. Clearly that is not the case this year. One could argue that Kansas City is the biggest draw of all home opponents who the Cowboys have in 2025. Playing them on Thanksgiving will make the holiday all the more large now.

2025 NFL offseason: Making sense of 10 lingering questions – ESPN
Why didn’t the Cowboys do more at running back? Only five teams rushed for fewer yards in 2024 than Dallas (1,705), and the team’s six rushing touchdowns ranked last in the league. The retirement of longtime interior offensive line standout Zack Martin isn’t likely to help the Cowboys improve their rushing attack. They also let last season’s leading rusher, Rico Dowdle, leave in free agency when they surely could have topped the one-year, $2.75 million deal he got from Carolina. Dallas did sign a couple of reclamation projects in free agency in former Eagles/Panthers back Miles Sanders and former Broncos back Javonte Williams. Then it drafted Texas’ Jaydon Blue in the fifth round and Clemson’s Phil Mafah in the seventh. So you can’t say the Cowboys did nothing at the position.

New York Giants 2025 NFL schedule release: Giants reportedly open season vs. Commanders – Big Blue View
The Giants will open the season on the road vs. the Washington Commanders, per at least two published reports (Art Stapleton first).

Report: Seahawks meet with Super Bowl champion cornerback – Field Gulls
The Seattle Seahawks are still looking for additional corner depth, and they might turn to a veteran who’s no stranger to high-pressure situations. Former Buffalo Bills starting cornerback Rasul Douglas was in town for a free agent visit, having previously met with the Miami Dolphins. NFL insider Tom Pelissero had the initial report.
