Giants 2025 schedule: One thought on every game and a record prediction

The New York Giants 2025-2026 NFL schedule is now — unofficially — known. It isn’t easy, of course. We already knew the high degree of difficulty. Below, let’s go game-by-game. I will offer a thought, or maybe two, and a prediction on each game.

Let’s see what we come up with for a projected record.

A reminder that the schedule won’t be official until the NFL announces it at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Week 1 — (at Washington Commanders)

Game info: Sunday, Sept. 7, 1 p.m.

The Commanders showed a year what getting the right young quarterback can do for a franchise. After drafting Jayden Daniels No. 2 overall, Washington went from 4-13 to 12-5 and winning a playoff game. Of course, new coach Dan Quinn had something to do with that, too.

The Giants have their own first-round rookie quarterback in Jaxson Dart. He holds the key to a potential franchise turnaround for the Giants, but he is unlikely to play in this one.

Prediction: The Giants lost two competitive games to Washington by a total of eight points last season. I am guessing we see more of the same. Giants record: 0-1

Week 2 — (at Dallas Cowboys)

Game info: Sunday, Sept. 14, 1 p.m.

Every season I look for games that show signs of change as the Giants try to dig out from a run of futility that has been seldom interrupted since they won the 2011 Super Bowl. Every year I think if it is going to change this year, there will be a couple of games where we might find out.

This year, I think this is one of those games. The Giants are 1-15 against the Cowboys over the past eight seasons and haven’t won in Dallas since a 20-19 victory on Sept. 11, 2016. The only game they won against the Cowboys, a 23-19 victory on Jan 1. 2023, was started by Andy Dalton and not Dak Prescott.

The Giants were 0-6 in the NFC East a year ago. I don’t think that will happen this time around. I will pick the Giants to win here, and won’t be the least bit surprised if I’m wrong. Giants record: 1-1

Week 3 — (vs. Kansas City Chiefs)

Game info: Sunday, Sept. 21 | 8:20 p.m., NBC

Nope. This might turn out to be a 2022-type season for the Giants where they win some games they aren’t expected to win and achieve beyond the 5.5-win over/under Vegas expects and the difficulty of the schedule suggests. Even through blue-colored glasses, though, I will not pick them to win this game. Giants record: 1-2

Week 4 (vs. Los Angeles Chargers)

Game info: Sunday, Sept. 28, 1 p.m.

The Giants went 1-8 in one-score games and 1-9 in games decided by 10 points or less last season. Those things are generally cyclical in the NFL, and the Giants are banking on improved defense and quarterback play to change the results in a few of those games.

I’m just not a big believer in the Chargers yet, and I think there are going to be a couple of games during the upcoming season the Giants should not win, but do, anyway. This is one. Giants record: 2-2

Week 5 — (at New Orleans Saints)

Game info: Sunday, Oct. 5, 1 p.m.

The Saints will likely be playing either Spencer Rattler or rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough at quarterback. If the Giants are 0-4, maybe even 1-3, this might be a soft landing spot for Jaxson Dart to take over at the team’s starting quarterback. I will pick the Giants win here against a team badly in need of a rebuild.

This is probably the high-water mark for the Giants this season. Giants record: 3-2

Week 6 — (vs. Philadelphia Eagles)

Game info: Thursday, Oct. 9, 8:15 p.m., Amazon Prime Video

The Super Bowl champion Eagles (yes, I hate writing it, though maybe not as much as you hate reading it) are still the gold standard. The measuring stick. The Giants’ roster is, in my view, clearly the best of the Joe Schoen/Brian Daboll era. That, though, does not mean they have gained any real ground on the Eagles. Howie Roseman and the just keep on hoarding talent.

The Giants are 1-7 in their last eight games against Philadelphia with only a meaningless season-ending victory over the Eagles in 2024. That’s not changing. I don’t see the Giants beating the Eagles in a midseason game that matters to Philly. Giants record: 3-3

Week 7 — (at Denver Broncos)

Game info: Sunday, Oct. 19, 4 p.m.

The Russell Wilson Revenge Game? Well, only if Wilson is still starting at quarterback for the Giants by then. Wilson, of course, had two tumultuous seasons in Denver being dumped by the Broncos.

This would be interesting if we got a Jaxson Dart-Bo Nix quarterback matchup, but that might still be early for the Giants to turn to their quarterback of the future. The mini-bye that the Giants get after playing the Eagles on a Thursday night, though, makes this interesting.

Denver made the playoffs a year ago and is an up-and-coming team. The Broncos are beatable, but this game is still sandwiched in between a pair of games against Philly. The Giants fall in the Mile High City. Giants record: 3-4

Week 8 — (at Philadelphia Eagles)

Game info: Sunday, Oct. 26, 1 p.m.

Just rinse and repeat what I wrote about the Week 6 game.

Giants record: 3-5

Week 9 — (vs. San Francisco 49ers)

Game info: Sunday, Nov. 2, 1 p.m.

Many believe that the 49ers, 6-11 a year ago after three straight double-digit win seasons, are in for a rebound season. I have a sneaky suspicion things go the other way for San Francisco and this is a game the Giants can win. Giants record: 4-5

Week 10 — (at Chicago Bears)

Game info: Sunday, Nov. 9, 1 p.m.

Is new Chicago head coach Ben Johnson the NFL’s 2025 version of 2022 Daboll? Maybe. The Bears seem to be everybody’s pick right now as a turnaround team, having gone just 5-12 a year ago. This seems like a game the Giants could win, after all 5-12 isn’t that far from 3-14. I’m just not feeling it. Giants record: 4-6

Week 11 (vs. Green Bay Packers)

Game info: Sunday, Nov. 16, 1 p.m.

The Xavier McKinney Revenge Game. The Packers have had winning records five of the past six years, but they seem like one of the most consistently inconsistent teams in the league. It always feels like they lose a game or two along the way that they just shouldn’t lose. This is one. Giants record: 5-6

Week 12 — (at Detroit Lions)

Game info: Sunday, Nov. 23, 1 p.m.

Lions coach Dan Campbell gave the Giants a lot of props for pushing the Lions and helping them get better before they went 15-2 last season. Great! He will spend a week convincing his better-than-the-Giants team that they got pushed around in last year’s joint practices. Giants record: 5-7

Week 13 — (at New England Patriots)

Game info: Monday, Dec. 1, 8:15 p.m., ESPN

Could this be Drake Maye, the quarterback the Giants tried to trade up for in 2024, vs. Dart, the quarterback the Giants did trade up in the 2025 draft for? Maybe. That would be fun, and maybe the possibility is why this game landed on Monday Night Football.

Props to me, by the way, for also pegging this game as a primetime possibility.

Who will win? Oh, my heart is going to overrule my head here. One of my sons is a Patriots’ fan (don’t ask how that happened). He is also a Cleveland Guardians’ fan while I am a Yankees’ fan. I’m going with the Giants here just because I need family bragging rights. Giants record: 6-7

Week 14 — BYE

Giants record: 6-7

Week 15 — (vs. Washington Commanders)

Game info: Sunday, Dec. 14, 1 p.m.

Can you imaging the Giants winning this game and being at .500 this late in the season with this difficult a schedule? Well, maybe you can and if you can I’m sorry for the tease. I just can’t pick the Giants to beat the Commanders here. Especially if Dart is playing by this point.

Giants record: 6-8

Week 16 — (vs. Minnesota Vikings)

Game info: Sunday, Dec. 14, 1 p.m.

Remember all that time the Giants spent with J.J. McCarthy in 2024 before deciding not to use the No. 6 overall pick in the draft on him? Well, this is McCarthy’s “you should have picked me” game. Giants record: 6-9

Week 17 — (at Las Vegas Raiders)

Game info: Sunday, Jan. 4, TBD

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pete Carroll. Tom Brady. Geno Smith Revenge Game. Giants get distracted by being in Vegas during the holidays. Not buying. Giants win. Happy Holidays! Giants record: 7-9

Week 18 — (vs. Dallas Cowboys)

Game info: TBA

Could the Giants beat the Cowboys twice in one season? It’s a nice dream, but I can’t get greedy. I will say it sure would be nice if this game meant something and there were no planes flying over MetLife Stadium calling for Daboll’s head. Giants final record: 7-10

Final thoughts

I didn’t “target” seven wins when I began this exercise. I did think seven wins was the maximum I could comfortably predict. I won’t be shocked if the season ends with the Giants winning five games. On the flip side, eight or nine if everything goes stunningly well — no key injuries and some late-game breaks.

I don’t believe Daboll’s future is dependent on an exact number of victories. I think, though, that a season that turns out similar to what I have laid out here and during which ownership is pleased by the long-term possibilities of the Daboll-Dart pairing could be enough to earn Daboll more time as head coach.
