Yes, Brian Daboll wanted this quarterback
There has been an impression that the New York Giants’ interest in drafting quarterback Jaxson Dart was driven by head coach Brian Daboll and his staff once coaches got involved in the draft process.
Watching the ‘Giants Life: How the Jaxson Dart trade went down’ video pretty much confirms that Dart was the quarterback Daboll had zeroed in on.

Listen to the growl in Daboll’s voice when he says “Good job, Joseph,” and watch the ferocity of the handshake.
Daboll wanted this quarterback.
Here’s what Schoen said to Daboll when he confirmed that he would go after Dart via trade back into Round 1:
“Nobody’s gonna remember a third-round pick if you’re right. So, you guys are convicted him him, you believe in him. We did the process, he checked all the boxes. Let’s f-ing roll the dice.”
Schoen confirmed that he started getting calls from teams beginning with the Seattle Seahawks at No. 18 “just because everybody assumed that we wanted to move back up.”
Schoen told Daboll he could get a deal done at No. 20 with the Denver Broncos, but gambled on his intel that the Pittsburgh Steelers would not take a quarterback at No. 25. Schoen admitted to worrying that either the Cleveland Browns or New Orleans Saints might move up for a quarterback.
“If you’re right [about a quarterback], a lot of times it really doesn’t matter what you give up,” Schoen said.
Schoen shows nervousness because one GM backed out on a deal.
“All week he said he would do this deal and now he’s backing out on us,” Schoen said.
In the end, the Giants got their guy.
Now, they just need to be right.
