Eli Manning reportedly not part of bid for 10% share
Michael Strahan is reportedly bidding to become a minority owner of the New York Giants. Per a report from Sportico, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Giants star has joined billionaire Marc Lasry in an effort to purchase a 10% share that is up for sale.
Significantly, Sportico also reported that former Giants quarterback Eli Manning will not be part of that group. Bloomberg reported recently that Manning had spoken to potential investors, including other former players, about bidding for the share of the team the Mara and Tisch families have made available.
Sportico said Manning will not join the bid by Strahan and Lasry “due to conflicts with his other business holdings.”
The Giants announced earlier this offseason that they would pursue the possibility of selling a minority non-controlling stake in the franchise. Sportico said the Giants are focused on selling that non-controlling stake to individual or family investors, rather than to a pricate equity firm.
Per Sportico, the Giants are worth $7.65 billion. That is third-most in the NFL and eighth-most among all U.S. sports franchises.
Lasry, per Sportico, is co-founder of Avenue Capital. He sold his share of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023, and has investments in TGL and Unrivaled.
