Did Giants, Joe Schoen crush the NFL Draft? Maybe. But good grades only go so far | The Athletic
Schoen has mostly tamped down expectations in his first three years on the job, and he was careful to note after the draft any improvements are only “on paper” at this point. But there’s nothing wrong with leaning into the optimism generated this offseason.
With the draft over, the heavy lifting for Schoen is done. Now the focus shifts to Daboll and his coaching staff. We’ll find out soon enough if the offseason plaudits translate to on-field success. That’s ultimately how this regime will be judged.

“Toughness all the way through the draft was something that we have talked about, both mental and physical,” Daboll said. “I think Skattebo has got both. Not to mention the other guys.”
Will Joe Schoen’s open-minded pivot off Shedeur Sanders to Jaxson Dart save him and Brian Daboll? | New York Daily News
What Schoen will be remembered for most fondly, however, if Dart turns out to be a franchise quarterback hit, will be the GM’s pivot off of Sanders despite plenty of affinity in the Giants’ building — including his own — for a player that plummeted to the Browns in round five as Cleveland’s second quarterback selected in this draft.
By doing so, Schoen proved he will make what he believes is the best decision for his franchise even if it’s not what he initially had planned, and he leaned all the way back into Daboll as the coach he will be tethered to, for better or worse.

The Giants drafted Dart in the first round and seem OK with him sitting and learning for a year. Coach Brian Daboll talked about how Dart will get mostly third-team reps throughout the spring and summer. There will be a developmental plan similar to what they did with Josh Allen in Buffalo. In the meantime, Russell Wilson is the starter and Jameis Winston is the likely backup, with Tommy DeVito — the veteran who knows the offense best — entering his third season to provide support.

Jaxson Dart gripped his knife and approached the feral hog.
Deep in the thicket of Mississippi hunting land, his new teammates grabbed the beast’s back legs and held on. Their four hound dogs had tracked and surrounded the hog. Now, their barking cut through the 20-degree February air. Rain pelted Dart’s shoulders.
He knew what he needed to do. Hours earlier, when the other guys told him how to kill a wild pig, he looked at them sideways: Are you serious? Dart hunted plenty before — shooting mountain lions and bears with his dad back home in Utah — but never like this.

Our favorite 2025 NFL Draft picks: Cam Skattebo, Colston Loveland and 30 more players | The Athletic
Cam Skattebo, RB, Arizona State Pick: Round 4, No. 105. I love the Skattebo pick. The running back’s collegiate journey made him a fan favorite, and I feel like we’re going to see a similar embrace in the NFL once he hits the New York market. On a more football-related front, it’s a great pick to fill out the Giants’ running back room, as Skattebo’s rugged running style offers a perfect complement to the more shifty Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Robert Griffin III shreds Giants for quarterback additions | USAToday.com
In the eyes of former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III, the current collection in the quarterback room is a colossal mistake and their decisions warrant heavy criticism.
“The New York Giants have no idea what they are doing at QB. Signed Jameis Winston only to sign Russell Wilson to start over him and then drafted a rookie QB who will get minimal reps in his redshirt year behind those (two),” Griffin posted on X. “Lord have mercy.”

Mbow isn’t the biggest (6-foot-4, 303 pounds), which is why most project him to play guard in the NFL. His athleticism will help him there. The versatility to kick outside if need be will remind the Giants of David Diehl.
This One Giants’ Draft Decision May Be Biggest Headscratcher | SI.com
While the New York Giants had, at least on paper, a successful draft, there was one thing that they didn’t do that might qualify as a headscratcher: not selecting multiple offensive linemen in the draft.
While the Giants did attempt to improve their depth this past offseason by signing free-agent swing tackles James Hudson III and Stone Forsythe and bringing back guards Greg Van Roten and Aaron Stinnie, none of these options are likely long-term for the team.

3. New York Giants Selection: Peter Woods, IDL, Clemson New York added Darius Alexander to play inside next to Dexter Lawrence, but barring a monster rookie season, there should still be plenty of reps to go around inside. Woods is a disruptive, powerful presence that could help the Giants combat the powerful lines building in the NFC East.

3. New York Giants: Anthony Hill Jr., LB, Texas/ A linebacker is not going to go this early in the draft, but the Giants do not need a quarterback. Hill has been a personal favorite to watch early in the process. He has great size for the position and is also a great athlete capable of playing in space.
