We all managed to brave yet another NFL draft, with the Miami Dolphins coming away with a total of eight new players. With many of the picks in the fifth round and beyond, some of these guys won’t make the final roster, but hopefully a few do, at least as depth pieces for a team that lacks depth at more than one position. Following the draft, I asked the following question last evening:
Who is your favorite and least favorite 2025 Miami Dolphins draft pick this year, and why?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the PQOTD-
holland182.0 just wants his money back.
This draft stinks, I demand a refund Favorite Pick – My nose Least Favorite Pick – Yes
Redwood_ likes the girth added to the DL but is not thrilled with the new safety.
Grant is my favourite pick, the Dolphins desperately needed DL, and Grant has great size and production, plus pass rush upside. My least favourite pick is Trader, he has questionable speed and range, and has been described as being at his best “when he’s mixing it up in the box”. But he’s awfully undersized to make his living in the box. Maybe he can cover opposition TEs.
SlayerNation1 questions Grier’s trade out of the fourth round. It seems like we have to deal with at least one questionable trade during the draft each year from Grier.
Grant has to be the favorite.
Least favorite is the third rounder from HOU in 2026, Grier made sure He planted that little seed.
Very cagey Grier. Also, clever sucking up to Ross by choosing a Wolverine first pick.
Grier is many things, stupid isn’t one of them.
Full disclosure, the picks look smart and solid. Ewers is a surprise, but I am always a fan of “1 QB per year”.
Ollie is very interesting as Mattison doesn’t do much for Me.
I am not convinced any of the trading was necessary. CB neglect will be the “O-Line” of the 2025 season. Safety should be slightly better than 2024, but that bar is very low.
sdphinsfan believes it’s time for our young secondary players to step up and show that they deserve their spots in the NFL. I pray that Grier has a better idea of who to sign as free agents for the secondary, or we might be in trouble.
For years, I’ve been begging for us to start building up front from the inside out on both sides of the ball. Finally, we did that. The first 3 picks are going to make the 53. Gordon is a nice addition to the RB room. And the DT Biggers in the 7th round may make it too. Ewers won’t push Tua for the starting job, but he’ll push Wilson for QB2.
The secondary is a concern. But it shouldn’t be. Guys like Duck, Bonner, and Smith have been around for a couple of years. The time is now for them to step up. We’ll add some veteran players, but with what we have and what we’ve added up front, we should be able to get pressure, and that cures a lot of ailments on the backend.
Miami7 believes that the RB might have potential, but is concerned that he fell so far. From my understanding, he had an off-the-field issue, specifically a DWI.
I don’t know enough to have a legitimate opinion or ‘ranking’ to be honest. I like the 1st 2 picks – though am a bit perplexed as to why we needed to trade so far up to get The OG? They have a conviction on the kid so I’ll believe in that (for now). Trading completely out of the 4th – don’t understand?
By the 5th Rd. it’s ‘whim & a prayer’ time…if ANY of these kids offer ANYTHING at all it’s more than can be expected. It’s not that the league is so saturated (like the NBA, where even 1st Rd picks may not cut it) but ya get down into the 150 player range and guy’s are pretty much complete crap shoots. The RB pick ‘looks’ like it ‘could’ bear fruit but….who knows? A lotta teams passed for a majority of the draft?
coach k 13 never really knows!
You really never know for a couple years how your draft was, and good evening!!
SuperG! likes the first two picks and wonders what Grier was doing by trading away the fourth.
Favorites are Grant and Savaiinaea. Least favorite was trading out of the 4th round.
DerekThomas is clearly not a fan of Grier. If things are not significantly better this season, he might not have to worry about him for much longer.
Another typical Dolphins draft under Grier. He sat back and watched the rest of the afc east get better. There are far too many holes and depth issues on the roster to wait for the 5th and 7th rounds. Favorite pick is Ollie Gordon III, they needed a bruiser back. Least favorite pick was Ewers in the 7th. If you are going to take a late round flyer on a qb you might as well have used a 5th on Mccord, higher upside IMO.
Dwadeshouse was seemingly happy with the way he whole thing went.
My fav draft in a while. Power, attitude, size and speed? Yes please.
Grant was my fav pick of the whole draft before we selected him… now its JS. The potential is extraordinary. Hes as powerful as Hunt but much more athletic. Imagine what you can do with that if it hits its ceiling?
Beyond the first 2 rounds i liked the trade down. The other picks i understand. Im not attaching expectation to any of them though
Dolphster is pleased that Grier and McDaniel have apparently shifted away from their prior “finesse” approach.
Favorite Pick: Grant. I know it is kind of a cop out to make the 1st round pick my fave, but I think Grant will not only do well, but he will occupy the opposing OL enough to free up Sieler to have another great season.
Least Favorite: Biggers. I think he has decent talent, but by taking both him AND Phillips, they essentially spent 2 picks on what amounts to the same guy. They are both run stoppers who won’t add too much in the way of pass rush. I would have been fine with either of them, but I think drafting both was redundant and kind of a waste of one of the picks.
Overall, I have to give some respect to Grier and McDaniel (it pains me to do that, LOL). They showed the self awareness to admit that their “finesse” approach to the game was a failure and that they need to get the team tougher, stronger, and a little nastier. I like the fact that the team went more for lunch pail guys and less ballet dancers. 🙂 Considering they only had 2 picks through the first 4 rounds, I think they did a good job on the draft (although obviously we won’t know for a couple years).
That’s our random ten comments this evening. It seems as if the consensus is that most are happy with the big guys in the trenches, but still not super pleased with some of Grier’s otherwise questionable decisions. Thank you to each of you who took the time to stop in and answer our question of the day.
