The Linc – NFL Draft grades for the Eagles’ Day 2 pick

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

NFL Draft grades for every Day 2 pick in 2nd and 3rd round – SB Nation

64. Philadelphia Eagles: Andrew Mukuba, S, Texas. Grade: A. I had Mukuba at 62 on my board, and the Eagles getting him at 64 is really nice value. He’s an instinctive safety who loves to mix it up close to the line of scrimmage despite his size. Coming off the roof of a defense he should be really good, and with the Eagles having enough size in front of him, he could be a playmaker next to Reed Blankenship.

2025 NFL draft: Mel Kiper’s winners, losers from Rounds 2-3 – ESPN+

Philadelphia Eagles. The pick: Andrew Mukuba (No. 64). Every year I put out a list of my favorite prospects at every position heading into the draft. These are the Day 2 or Day 3 picks who have great tape and should outplay their draft slot. Mukuba was the first member of the 2025 list to get drafted this year. I love Mukuba’s game. He’s 5-foot-11 and 186 pounds, but he plays so much bigger and hits like a linebacker. Mukuba is a top-five safety on my board, and I could see him popping into the lineup in C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s vacated spot.

2025 NFL Draft: Grades for every Day 2 pick – PFF

64. Philadelphia Eagles: S Andrew Mukuba, Texas. Pick Grade: Above Average. The Eagles find their replacement for C.J. Gardner-Johnson in the athletic Andrew Mukuba. The Texas product showed great progress in his college career, culminating in a 90.0 overall grade in 2024, with an excellent grade in coverage (89.7). He forced an incompletion on 26.1% of his targets, an incredibly high rate. Mukuba showed terrific ball skills, intercepting five passes and allowing a paltry 12.1 passer rating last season.

2025 NFL Draft: Snap grades for all 32 teams on Day 2 – NFL.com

Andrew Mukuba: B+. Analysis: Mukuba is a lean safety with good speed and ball skills. His tape at Clemson was inconsistent, but he stepped up for Texas last season to land with a team needing to bolster the secondary after trading C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Philadelphia traded down twice in the third round, garnering a sixth-round pick this year and a 2026 fifth-rounder. They have two fourth-round selections to find a defensive tackle to replace Milton Williams and offensive skill position depth.

Eagles Day 2 draft grades: DB Andrew Mukuba and a couple of trades – PhillyVoice

Pick 64: Andrew Mukuba, DB, Texas. Mukuba was a favorite of mine throughout the draft process, and a very clear fit in Vic Fangio’s scheme. He is primarily a safety, but he doubles as a slot corner, in a similar mold as C.J. Gardner-Johnson. He is smart, tough, instinctive, and a ballhawk, as he had 5 INTs and a forced fumble in 2024. He’s also a hitter. Watch his highlight reel. He sees the field so well, and has outstanding anticipation of where the ball is going. […] If the Eagles were in building mode, I would not love this pick. Mukuba’s ceiling probably isn’t super high because of his pure physical limitations. But on a Super Bowl roster, he is the type of highly intelligent player who has a really good chance of stepping in and starting competently very early in his career. B.

NFL Draft Results: Eagles pick Andrew Mukuba at No. 64 – BGN

With the 64th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles select … Andrew Mukuba, safety, Texas! Mukuba, who turns 23 this season, began his collegiate career at Clemson before transferring to Texas last year. He notably had five interceptions for the Longhorns in 2024. The Eagles had a need at safety after trading C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans. The play-making Mukuba figures to compete with Sydney Brown for a starting job next to Reed Blankenship. He might also contend for playing time at nickel cornerback if Cooper DeJean moves to the outside. Mukuba was the No. 72 prospect on the Arif Hasan consensus big board.

Texas S Andrew Mukuba selected No. 64 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles – Burnt Orange Nation

Mukuba’s ball skills, instincts, and physicality make him a Day Two selection in this year’s draft. From his safety position, Mukuba possesses the awareness and athleticism to accurately survey the field before making decisive plays. He is a physical tackler that isn’t afraid to bring his hat downhill and fill the alley. In coverage, Mukuba operates best when he has the opportunity to read the quarterback and react. He’s also played across the secondary during his college career — at Clemson, he played nickel and free safety and worked out at cornerback during the Texas Pro Day, providing some scheme versatility for the Eagles in addition to addressing the concern about weighing 186 pounds at the NFL Combine by getting up to 194 pounds at the Texas Pro Day.

Eagles Add Safety – Iggles Blitz

Nick liked his play style, mentioning his relentless effort. Mukuba finished third in tackles for Texas. He’s not just a ballhawk. He gets to the football and makes tackles in the run/short pass game. With CJGJ gone, the Eagles needed someone to challenge Sydney Brown for the starting job. Mukuba has the talent, experience and athleticism to push Brown and win the job. Good pick.

Eagles draft Texas S Andrew Mukuba in 2nd round: 5 thoughts on Day 2, from replacing C.J. Gardner-Johnson to Super Bowl effect in NFL Draft – PHLY

I liked Mukuba as a fit for the Eagles (and as a prospect – on our “My Guys” list for the PHLY Eagles show in which we discuss safeties we like compared to consensus, he was the player I identified), but I admittedly liked him more in a middle round and not in the second round. I thought Winston’s upside and size profile were more appealing — if he did not get injured, I think he could have pushed to be in that top tier of safeties — and I thought Watts’ instincts, ball skills, and size made him a safer bet. I also thought both would go in the second/third rounds ahead of Mukuba, so it’s notable the Eagles targeted him above them. This will be an interesting one to monitor. In summation, I like the evaluation more than the valuation, although the Eagles have a better idea of whether Mukuba would have fallen to their third-round pick (as Watts did) or even into Day 3. But if you have conviction about a player, it’s better a round too early than a pick too late.

‘He plays an Eagles brand of football:’ What Howie Roseman loves about Andrew Mukuba – NBCSP

The message Howie Roseman kept trying to get across when talking about Andrew Mukuba is that he plays like a Philadelphia Eagle. All the things that Roseman, Nick Sirianni and Vic Fangio want in a defensive player, this kid has ‘em. “He plays with mentality, you know?” Roseman said late Friday night. “And this guy, it’s just he plays an Eagles brand of football, and I think for us, you know, kind of the value fit the need right there. And we felt like throughout this process, this guy just did everything, checked all the boxes, and that was really what we’re looking for from that position.”

An absolute baller, Swiss Army knife, hybrid: Eagles top pick Jihaad Campbell has a knack for fitting in. – Inquirer

His continued willingness to wear multiple hats on the football field will define the next stop in his career with the Eagles. Campbell, who described himself as “Mr. Can-Do-It-All” and a “Swiss Army knife” at the combine, has refused to put a label on the precise role he envisions for himself in Vic Fangio’s defense. He can line up on the edge. He can line up in the box. Just don’t put the 21-year-old Campbell in a box. “I like being a football player,” Campbell said. “I like being an absolute baller, a dude that can do everything, that can learn and grow and just maximize each and every opportunity I have to play this game.”

Eagles, Chargers nearly had a deal for the No. 22 pick – PFT

As one source explained it, the Chargers were talking to multiple teams while on the clock, including the Eagles. When a deal wasn’t finalized, the Chargers took their guy: North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton. Some believe it was much closer than that. That a deal was done but that there was an issue in the communication of it to the league. And, as we’ve learned in the past, both teams must independently communicate to the NFL the terms of the deal before a trade becomes official. If there’s any discrepancy in the terms supplied by the teams, there’s no deal.

Spadaro: Youthful defense has so much to prove, get your popcorn ready! – PE.com

The transformation of the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense is staggeringly impressive and the shift to youth and energy is obvious. What Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman has done to replenish that side of the football is nothing less than jaw-dropping. In a very short period of time – six weeks, since the start of the 2025 Free Agency period – the Eagles have brought in waves of talent to Vic Fangio’s group, and as a result, you take a look at every level of this defense. The latest: Addressing the front seven of the D on Thursday night with the selection of off-ball linebacker/edge rusher Jihaad Campbell with pick No. 31 in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and then using the 64th overall selection to take Texas safety Andrew Mukuba.

The Washington Commanders Select Trey Amos, CB, Ole Miss in the Second Round of 2025 NFL Draft – Hogs Haven

Day 2 of the NFL draft is here and the Washington Commanders have picked Ole Miss CB Trey Amos with the No. 61 overall pick. Washington went offense yesterday with Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr., and now gives DC Joe Whitt Jr another DB to work with. Washington released former 1st round pick Emmanuel Forbes Jr. last year, and let Benjamin St-Juste leave in free agency last month. Mike Sainristil was taken in the 2nd round last year and was used in several spots. Washington also traded for Marshon Lattimore who was dealing with a hamstring injury. Trey Amos wasn’t expected to be available at No. 61, but Washington had no problem turning his card in and making him the second Commander drafted this week. Amos spent five years in college, with his first three at Louisiana. He joined the SEC two years ago with Alabama, and then transferred to Ole Miss for his final season. He had his best season with 50 combined tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 3 INTs, 13 passes defended, and a forced fumble.

Cowboys draft grade: Day 2 grades for Donovan Ezeiruaku, Shavon Revel Jr. – Blogging The Boys

Originally projected as a first-round pick, Revel’s draft stock dipped significantly due to the injury, but he is expected to be ready for training camp in July. His addition provides the Cowboys with much needed depth and potential at the cornerback position, complementing their defensive strategy and addressing the need for versatile defensive backs. The main concern with Revel is the fact he is joining a defensive back room carrying a major injury, whilst the team is already dealing with major injuries of their own. On the flip side, the medical staff that took of Revel was the same staff that currently work for Dallas, meaning they have a major insight and knowledge of the risks his injury carries.

Giants NFL Draft results 2025: New York selects Darius Alexander, DT, Toledo in Round 3 – Big Blue View

With the first pick in Round 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, No. 65 overall, the New York Giants on Friday night selected Darius Alexander, a defensive tackle from Toledo. The Giants did not have a selection in Round 2 after Thursday’s trade up for Haxson Dart, in which they gave up pick No. 34. This is the earliest GM Joe Schoen has selected a defensive tackle in the four drafts he has run for the Giants. This was a need for the Giants, and Alexander is a good get. This continues an offseason where the Giants have invested heavily in upgrading their defense.
