The Rams have selected defensive lineman Ty Hamilton

The Los Angeles Rams have made it a point on day three of the 2025 NFL Draft to move up and get their guys. After trading up to take running back Jarquez Hunter with the 117th overall pick, the Rams moved up once again to take Ohio State defensive lineman Ty Hamilton with the 148th overall selection in the fifth round.

To move up for Hamilton, the Rams gave up the 195th overall pick as well as 2026 fourth round selection. It marks a second straight year in which the Rams have given up future draft capital and what seemed like a big haul to move up for a defensive lineman. They did the same last year for Braden Fiske in the second round.

On the Rams

Coming into the draft, the Rams needed some defensive line depth. That was despite adding Poona Ford in free agency and bringing back Larrell Murchison. Hamilton will certainly fill that need as someone who has heavy hands, plays with a hot motor, and has position versatility. He’s an experienced player with over 50 career starts and had 3.5 sacks last season at Ohio State.

Hamilton will add to the defensive line rotation and what has been considered one of the best young position groups in the NFL. He has good initial quickness and brings some pass rush upside. However, his immediate impact will be felt against the run. His position versatility will be especially valuable for the Rams as they like to move players up and down the line.
