Former Giants coach Joe Judge says fans will love how Jaxson Dart competes | New York Daily News
Who is Jaxson Dart? Former Giants head coach Joe Judge said after sitting with his Ole Miss QB during Thursday’s NFL Draft party inside a Minky Couture outlet in Ogden, Utah.
“Very sincere. Very genuine. One of the most instinctive players I’ve ever been around. Legit tough.”
What struck Judge most — as his former team tabbed Dart as its next QB with Judge seated feet away — was whom Dart had chosen to spend his big moment with. “He celebrated with the people who helped him get there. It was a mature decision. It wasn’t about being in the spotlight. It was about being around the people he cared about.”

Jaxson Dart is Giants’ future, it’s only a matter of time before he’s their present | SNY.tv
Multiple sources across the NFL all shared the same assessment of the Ole Miss passer: He’s a project. There are traits you absolutely love, like his grit and leadership. One executive highlighted his processing and accuracy. His arm strength is underwhelming at times (receivers sometimes have to wait for the ball), but it’s more than enough to win with.
He needs to develop mentally. He needs to get used to the speed of the NFL. He needs to check the recklessness. There is starter potential within him. Some, although not all, believe there is the potential to be a good starter.
That as a plan is fine right now. Go with it as long as Dart’s raw potential is just that: Potential. The moment he begins to show signs that he’s ready, though? Even if it’s earlier than expected? He needs to be named the starter. It’s not about Wilson being better. It’s about Dart being ready. The Giants cannot act like they owe Wilson anything.
Giants leave Round 1 of NFL Draft having executed a possible best-case scenario | The Athletic
The testament to the process is Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who was picked seventh in 2018 when Schoen was Buffalo’s assistant general manager and Daboll was the offensive coordinator. It’s clear Daboll sees some similarities in Dart, praising the quarterback’s toughness, competitiveness and athleticism.
Whether Daboll possesses an uncanny ability to identify franchise quarterbacks or just got lucky with Allen, the Dart pick will at least provide an answer. Daboll was hired mostly because of his work developing Allen. So it would have been a waste if his time in New York came and went without ever getting the opportunity to groom a quarterback.
Jaxson Dart: Why New York Giants believe in his Big Apple “edge’ at QB | The Record
“It’s almost kind of like the early stages of dating, I would say,” Dart relayed with a chuckle when asked how he dealt with the uncertainty of the process late Thursday night. “You go on dates with different people and that’s what Coach Daboll was doing, and I felt confident in the relationship that we had. So – yeah, I saw all of [the Giants’ interest in other quarterbacks]. But at the same time, I just felt confident in the preparation that I had for my meetings with them, how I did at the combine, how I did – really just my tape throughout my career, and then all the meetings that we had.”
Dart paused before adding: “I felt like I gave it all that I got.”

Jaxson Dart ‘blessed’ to have Manning family in his corner | Giants.com
“It’s wild,” Dart said on draft night. “It’s wild to think about. (The Mannings) were just such an amazing asset for me when I was at Ole Miss. Obviously going down to the Manning Passing Academy and spending more time with them there, and then Archie just being consistent with texting me, and he made sure to give me a good luck today, and then Eli, I couldn’t ask for a better resource than that. … I’m going to continue to lean on them a little bit, and I couldn’t be more blessed to have them in my corner.”

Now it’s about putting the 21-year-old in a developmental program that could help save the franchise and everyone’s jobs.
This is what they brought Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to New York for in the first place back in 2022. Daboll was instrumental in the development of Josh Allen in Buffalo and Kafka has been credited with playing a key role in the growth of a young Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
Giants would be foolish to unretire Lawrence Taylor, Phil Simms numbers for Abdul Carter | NJ.com
There isn’t a single person inside the Giants’ training facility — especially not John Mara — who should believe this is actually a good idea.
Maybe Phil Simms and/or Lawrence Taylor — who, of course, made Nos. 11 and 56 famous in East Rutherford — would be diplomatic about this whole thing and say they’d be fine with Carter wearing their numbers. Still, it shouldn’t happen. No way. It would make absolutely zero sense.
“I want to chase greatness”
Abdul Carter was asked about #56 being an option for him and his relationship with Lawrence Taylor:
“I haven’t met him yet, eventually I will. He’s the greatest football player of all time and somebody I look up to. I want to chase greatness” pic.twitter.com/gcn55Udq5n

How Jaxson Dart can save Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll, even if Giants stink again | NJ.com
The Giants face the NFL’s toughest schedule in 2025, coming off back-to-back debacle seasons (6-11 in 2023 and 3-14 in 2024). Schoen and Daboll are both on a scorching hot seat. So if the Giants struggle early with Wilson starting, how soon will this regime go to Dart? Because at that point, with more losses piling up, the only chance Schoen and Daboll would have of saving their jobs is to show Mara and co-owner Steve Tisch that Dart is flashing enough potential to provide hope.
If that’s the case — and Dart is progressing late in 2025 as a crummy team’s starter under Daboll’s mentorship — Mara and Tisch will have to think twice before they rip Daboll away from Dart.
John Mara should make clear, strong statement of support for Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll | Pro Football Talk
PFT’s Mike Florio writes: “…Mara’s best move at this point would be to turn down the flames. Sure, he might take some heat from the customers for doing it. But so what? Owners need to show courage of conviction — and the kind of thin skin that can overcome the noise of the day.
For the Giants to finally turn it around, they have to stop with the regular turnover. If Mara trusts Schoen and Daboll enough to let them trade up for Dart, he should trust them to preside over Dart’s career long enough to see whether they found an Eli Manning, or whether they landed another Daniel Jones.”
