The Eagles’ second-round draft pick isn’t worried about his size, will play wherever he’s asked, and is excited for this opportunity.
The Eagles picked up their C.J. Gardner-Johnson replacement on Friday night, selecting safety/DB Andrew Mukuba with the last pick of the second round. He hopped on a call with reporters shortly afterward and, despite some technical difficulties, talked about how excited he is for the opportunity and what type of player he is.
Mukuba admitted that he was a bit at a loss for words because the whole experience has been surreal. He explained that the day was filled with different emotions, but as soon as he saw what team was calling him, he jumped out of his seat so fast.
“I feel like I’m in a great situation, in a great position.”
He went on to say that his size never affected how he plays, and that it’s not something he thinks about as having to take into consideration. Mukuba plays with a lot of physicality so him not being the biggest safety isn’t a concern.
The incoming rookie considers himself a versatile player and unselfish, so he’s ready to come in and play whatever position the Eagles ask of him, whether that’s at nickel or safety. He also noted that he’s very self-aware, so he’ll be the first one to pinpoint areas in which he needs to improve.
Mukuba talked a bit about his background, including being born in Zimbabwe and moving to the United States when he was nine years old. He explained that he wasn’t able to start playing until he was about 12 years old, but he fell in love with the game the first time he watched it and couldn’t wait to play.
