The Eagles GM was aggressive in trying to get their top first-round prospect, but it didn’t matter because they ended up drafting him nearly 10 picks later.
The Philadelphia Eagles really, really wanted to draft Jihaad Campbell on Thursday night, so much so that Howie Roseman reportedly nearly had a deal done with the Chargers to move up to No. 22. Ian Rapoport explained that the Eagles’ GM tried to make a deal for picks 23 and 24 as well, but couldn’t get something done.
It didn’t matter though.
Somehow Roseman comes out of the first round, yet again, with an elite talent falling into his lap. The Eagles ended up getting Campbell at No. 31 and only had to give up No. 164 to the Chiefs to move up one spot and secure their pick.
From our NFL Draft coverage: The #Eagles tried multiple times to trade up for #Bama LB Jihaad Campbell, thinking they had a deal with the #Chargers before LAC picked. Now, they get him at 31. pic.twitter.com/caIAYVEpxy

The fact that Roseman was so eager to get Campbell that he was willing to move up 10 spots says something to the caliber of player the linebacker is, and everything ultimately worked out without the Eagles having to give up too much to get him.
