Rams could go in any direction during Round 1 of the 2025 NFL draft
The 2025 NFL draft is here, and the Los Angeles Rams could go in any direction in Round 1. There is no mock draft out there with a consensus on who the Rams should select with the No. 26 pick. With Les Snead, anything is possible on draft night, so L.A. fans should brace themselves for a wild night ahead.
So far, there have been rumors about the team moving up for a tight end, trading out of the first round, selecting a quarterback as Matthew Stafford’s successor and other crazy possibilities.
The entire process has been extremely nauseating—perhaps more so than in recent years.
To illustrate just how torn NFL writers are about who the franchise should take, here are a few mock drafts from the past 24 hours alone …
In his final 2025 mock draft, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports has the Rams selecting LSU tight end Mason Taylor with the 26th overall pick:
“They need a tight end who can get down the field and Taylor is that type of player. I think he’s one of the most-underrated players in this draft, a productive college player who will produce on the next level.”
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer has Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka falling to Los Angeles:
“The Rams have some needs on defense, but I see them using this pick on an offensive skill player or another piece for their defensive front. Egbuka would be a really good fit for the offense, as a versatile inside/outside weapon who’s tenacious as a blocker in the run game.”
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah went in a much different direction, mocking North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton to L.A., an odd choice given the team’s selection of Blake Corum in last year’s draft:
“On the surface, this might be puzzling, given the presence of Kyren Williams. But Williams is in the final year of his contract and had only one carry of 30-plus yards last season. In comparison, Saquon Barkley had 13 such runs, including the playoffs. Hampton provides a more explosive element to the Rams’ run game and can eventually take over as RB1.”
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler predicted the Rams will trade out of the first round with the Giants, who move up to grab Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart.
Throughout mock drafts leading up to the 2024 draft, media members primarily had the Rams going with either Jared Verse or Chop Robinson. At least there was a consensus that the team would select a player to boost its defense.
This season? Forget about it. If oddsmakers are struggling with Shedeur Sanders’ potential landing spot, then good luck trying to figure out Snead. The Rams’ GM is far too experienced to tip his hand mere hours before the draft.
Popular draft positions for L.A. include wide receiver, tight end, cornerback and offensive tackle. Going outside those needs would be surprising, but not out of the question. So, Rams fans, better stock up on your beer and potato chips now, because if the mock drafts are any indication, expect the unexpected from Snead and company tonight.
