Should the Rams cross quarterbacks off of their board in the first round?
Dan Orlovsky says that the Rams are too good right now to take a quarterback like Jaxson Dart in the first round, while another ESPN analyst believes that L.A. could “set themselves up for the next ten years” if a player like that falls in their lap.
Who do you agree with?
“Legit Super Bowl contenders don’t, in the first round, take quarterbacks.”@danorlovsky7 on the Rams possibly drafting QB Jaxson Dart at No. 26 pic.twitter.com/AS37CqiC8K

The Rams hold the 26th pick in the draft and there are a couple of quarterbacks in this class who could go as high as top-12 or as low as the second round:
- Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders
- Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart
After those two, there is a small amount of buzz that Tyler Shough and Jalen Milroe could go in the first round.
Orlovsky’s point is that the Rams are too good right now to take a quarterback when they could potentially make the team better immediately if they draft someone like Georgia safety Malaki Starks. “You have all the roster makings of a top-3 team in the NFC.”
He also mentions LSU tight end Mason Taylor as an option at 26.
On the other hand, Mike Tannenbaum argues that the Rams “could be opportunistic” and set themselves up for the next ten years if they happen to like a quarterback who is available at pick 26.
What would you do?
The situation isn’t necessarily apples to apples, but the Chiefs were coming off of a 12-4 season when they drafted Patrick Mahomes in 2017.
The Ravens were not as good when they drafted Lamar Jackson in 2018, as they were coming off of a 9-7 season and missed the playoffs, plus they had already drafted Hayden Hurst in the first round that year, but I think the consensus was that Baltimore made a decision for the future when they drafted Lamar…and then Lamar made them a lot better that same year.
And no, I wouldn’t compare Milroe to Lamar. I’m just saying that sometimes Super Bowl contenders draft first round quarterbacks.
And usually Super Bowl contenders don’t draft first round quarterbacks and sometimes they players they do choose, like a Clyde Edwards-Helaire for example, don’t help at all.
It just depends on whether or not the Rams see Dart, Sanders, or any of these other quarterbacks as options that could help set them up for the next 10 years. That part is much more debatable.
