Joe Schoen has plenty of options, and a difficult decision, to make with third overall pick
The New York Giants are “fielding calls” to gauge their interest in moving down from pick No. 3 in the 2025 NFL Draft, per ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager.
“There have been phone calls made to both the Browns at 2 and the Giants at 3 with the intention to move up,” Schrager said.
One interesting name teams might be looking to move up for, per Schrager, is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.
Schrager said the Giants and Browns “are not immediately slamming down the phone.”

Of course the Giants are getting offers for the third overall pick. GM Joe Schoen admitted as much last week when he candidly said “yes, we’ve received some calls.”
It would be GM malpractice, similar to what Dave Gettleman committed in 2018 before selecting Saquon Barkley when he refused to even hear out teams that wanted to trade up to the No. 2 spot in the draft, for Schoen not to take calls and consider offers.
Could moving down and collecting assets be the right play for Schoen and the Giants. Maybe. Perhaps they would be more comfortable selecting Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart in the bottom part of the top 10 than at No. 3. Maybe adding those Day 2 picks would make the early move for a quarterback more palatable.
Then again, the last time the Giants moved down in the draft and left a clear blue chip player — Micah Parsons — on the board to collect assets that didn’t work out so well. The Giants, of course, ended up with the enigmatic and underproductive Kadarius Toney.
Schoen said last week he is “open to all options.” He is, though, clearly cognizant of the risk of passing on blue chip talent.
“If there is a blue chip or generational type talent or something you just can’t pass on, even if you maybe already have starters at that position, you don’t pass on that type of player,” Schoen said.
We will know in a couple of days what the Giants, with a fascinating decision to make at No. 3, do.
