The Birds are doing their homework on multiple Nittany Lions defenders.
It’s time to add at least one more prospect to Bleeding Green Nation’s Philadelphia Eagles’ pre-draft visits tracker leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Birds hosted Penn State safety Kevin Winston Jr. at the NovaCare Complex, according to ESPN’s Tim McManus.
Winston Jr. is the second Penn State safety to visit the Eagles. It was previously reported that they hosted Jaylen Reed. The Birds also brought Nittany Lions linebacker Kobe King to Philly.
The 21-year-old Winston Jr. made 15 starts in 28 games played for Penn State from 2022-2024. He was limited to just three games last season due to a knee injury. All told, he logged 90 combined tackles, five passes defensed, one interception, and one forced fumble.
Winston Jr. is the No. 33 prospect ranked by Pro Football Focus and the No. 59 prospect ranked by Daniel Jeremiah. He projects as a potential Day 2 target for the Eagles, who could afford to add a safety after trading C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
Scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:
Talented but relatively inexperienced due to a season-ending injury in 2024. Winston has NFL size and traits but is lacking in the instincts and recognition column on the back end. He’s much better when he’s engaged and playing forward, where his play strength and consistency as a tackler stands out. He can cover both in-line and slot tight ends and hassle their catch space. However, he struggles with anticipation and footwork when asked to play on top of the defense. Safeties with traits and tackle talent usually stick around as starters, but Winston might be somewhat limited unless he develops his field recognition enough to handle what NFL passing schemes will throw at him.
