John Spytek is not worried about positional value when it comes to picking the best player at six for the Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders are preparing for the draft, and John Spytek and Pete Carroll have work to do. With the team finishing 4-13 last season and letting key starters on defense go, they will be looking to add pieces in the draft.
Spytek will get his chance to make his first selection as general manager and get a top ten pick to get his feet wet. However, the buzz around the pick is surrounding running back Ashton Jeanty out of Boise State. The new Raiders GM was asked about whether he would draft a running back in the first round, and he kept the possibility open with his answer.
“I’m gonna be careful about talking about any specific player,” Spytek said during Friday’s pre-draft news conference after Carroll’s cautionary murmur. “But, more broadly to the running back question, I mean, we just saw Saquon Barkley just change the Eagles in one year. Now they had a great team around him, and it was adding an elite player. I think when you sit where we sit, the idea is to add elite players at any position. I don’t try to devalue any certain position.”
What the Raiders will do at six is full of options, and they could go in any direction. Whether that is adding to the trenches on offense or defense, or selecting Jeanty at the same spot. It will make for an interesting draft night for Raider Nation and could mean a surprise as well.
