2025 NFL Draft prospect profile – Cameron Williams, OT, Texas

2025 NFL Draft prospect profile – Cameron Williams, OT, Texas

Could Williams be a bookend for Andrew Thomas?

The offensive tackle class in the 2025 NFL Draft is an interesting one. Several of the players who were top tackles in college could find themselves being forced to move inside to guard at the next level.

Texas right tackle Cameron Williams is one of the tackle prospects who should be able to stay at offensive tackle in the NFL. However, as a collegiate right tackle, he hasn’t been getting as much buzz as his peers on the left side. That could make him a strong value pick if he happens to slide down draft boards.

Rebuilding the offensive line has been a lengthy quest for the New York Giants. They finally produced a line that was solid in 2025 — at least until injuries struck — however the right side was missing long-term answers.

Could Williams be a long-term bookend for Andrew Thomas at right tackle?

Strengths

Best traits

  • Knee bend and leverage
  • Arm length
  • Play strength
  • Run blocking
  • Pass protection

Cameron Williams is a good-sized, powerful, and smooth offensive tackle prospect.

Williams has near prototypical size at 6-foot 5 ¾ inches tall, 317 pounds, and with long (34 ½ inch) arms and gigantic 11 ⅜ inch hands. Williams maintains good lower-body fluidity and is a natural knee bender despite his size. He does a great job of keeping his hips and pads low throughout the rep, maximizing his play strength as well as his ability to absorb power.

He has smooth, balanced footwork and plays with a wide base. Williams covers ground well against most opponents and is seldom out of position. He’s able to mirror most edge defenders and is a reliable pass protector. He does a very good job of fitting his hands inside defenders’ framework and is able to use his impressive grip strength to control them.

That power and dependability extend to the run game as well. Williams is able to execute man and zone principles, and is a people-mover on the edge as well as being a capable pulling blocker.

Williams also flashes good football IQ throughout his game. He keeps his head on a swivel and looks for work if he doesn’t have anyone to block. Likewise, he does a very good job of picking up and passing off defenders when faced with stunts, twists, and delayed pressures. He also works well with his teammates in combo blocks, and avoids getting hung up on the initial block before quickly working up to the second level.

Weaknesses

Worst traits

  • Elite speed off the edge

There are few real weaknesses in Williams’ game. He’s a well-rounded tackle with a good blend of traits that should appeal to a wide variety of teams.

Williams’ biggest weakness is that he lacks elite athleticism. He’s a smooth mover for a big man and covers ground well within his range. However, his range is a bit smaller than ideal and he can be stressed by elite speed – or good speed paired with elite technical skill – off the edge.

Fast edge rushers will stress almost any tackle, however Williams can have a bit of an issue hitting his landmarks in time when faced with (very) good speed rushers. That, in turn, can lead to poorly placed hands or the occasional lunge.

Teams may also want to see Williams be more assertive with his hands. He has good arm length, great play strength, and truly massive hands, but he doesn’t consistently deliver a *jolt* to opposing defenders.

Williams did suffer a knee sprain at the end of the season and missed Texas’ playoff game against Arizona State. It isn’t much of a concern, however teams should do their due diligence on his medical reports.

Projection

Cameron Williams projects as a starting offensive tackle at the NFL level.

While teams who depend heavily on athleticism up front might look elsewhere, Williams should appeal to a wide variety of NFL teams. He can execute man-gap and zone-based blocking schemes, and is a generally dependable blocker.

His shortest route to the field will likely be on the right side, simply due to his familiarity with the position. Williams might need a year of seasoning before he’s ready to start, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him pushing for a starting job sooner rather than later.

Does he fit the Giants?
Yes
