The Linc – Don’t forget about Eli Ricks

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 4/13/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

In Roob’s Observations: An intriguing dark horse in Eagles’ cornerback competition – NBCSP
1. We’ve been so focused on Kelee Ringo as the next man up at cornerback, and he very well could be. Ringo has great size and elite speed and did some good things in 2023 when he played over 200 snaps. I think he’s got a chance to be a pretty good corner. But let’s not forget Eli Ricks, who also played a lot in 2023 and also did some good things. Ricks barely played this year – just 14 defensive snaps, all but three in the meaningless season ender vs. the Giants. But let’s look at Ricks’ season in 2023. As an undrafted rookie, he played 301 snaps, 4th-most on the team among corners, behind James Bradberry, Darius Slay and Bradley Roby. That’s by far the most snaps by an undrafted Eagles rookie corner since Stathead began tracking snaps in 2012 and 2nd-most by any undrafted Eagles defensive rookie, behind Cedric Thornton’s 395 in 2012. Ricks was targeted 36 times and allowed only 18 completions, and that 50 percent completion percentage was 9th-best of 109 corners targeted at least 30 times. Now, he allowed some big plays, and his 7.3 yards per target was middle of the pack – 55th of those 109 corners. But we’re talking about an undrafted 22-year-old rookie corner. The Eagles like Ricks enough that they kept him on the 53-man roster all last year even though he wasn’t playing. That speaks volumes. I don’t think Vic Fangio is going to hand anything to anybody, and I’ll be surprised if Ricks doesn’t at least get some 1st-team reps during training camp at outside corner. I like Ringo. He’s got terrific tools, and he’s feisty – sometimes a little too feisty. But Ricks also has great size, he loves being physical at the line of scrimmage, he’s got excellent make-up speed, and he’s got a ton of upside considering he didn’t play a lot in college – just over 1,000 combined snaps at LSU and Alabama – and he obviously hasn’t played a lot in the NFL. Losing Slay, Isaiah Rodgers and Avonte Maddox, that’s a lot in one offseason. It’s going to take more than one guy to replace them, and I expect Ricks to be right in that mix.

Who do you want the Eagles to pick in this 2025 NFL Draft scenario? – BGN
Dear Bleeding Green Nation, I need your help! The Philadelphia Eagles are on the clock in the 2025 SB Nation NFL writers mock draft and I’m making the pick for them at No. 32. Who should I take knowing that the following players are already off the board?

Mailbag: How do the Eagles rank the importance of each position? – PhillyVoice
Nic Scourton, EDGE, Texas A&M: Scourton is an agile player with some effective pass rush moves, notably his inside and outside spins. He is also a tough defender against the run, with the motor and hustle to chase down runs from the backside. He makes sense as a Brandon Graham successor who would primarily play on the edge but has some iDL versatility.

Snaps Lost for 2025 – Over The Cap
On defense the Dolphins lead the NFL with a whopping 33% of their snaps lost so far. I think if we took a two year overview no team would have lost more players than Miami. While some of their snaps lost have been to retirements they have quietly been ravaged by the cap in free agency the last two seasons. The Raiders are just under 30% with a good chunk of those coming from the secondary. The Vikings come in third at 28% with the Eagles close behind at 27.4%. The other teams over 20% are the Ravens and 49ers.

2025 NFL draft: Seven prospects with wide pick ranges – ESPN+
WALTER NOLEN. Highest projected draft slot: No. 11. Lowest projected draft slot: No. 32. Scouts have known about Nolen since high school, as he was one of the most dominant prep players in his 2022 recruiting class. He later transferred to Ole Miss from Texas A&M and has become one of the most impressive defensive players in this draft class, too. Scouts I’ve spoken with feel strongly that Nolen checks all the boxes to be a first-round talent, with some believing he is a clear top-20 player regardless of position. I had had Nolen all the way up at No. 11 overall in my latest mock draft. His first step is super fast, and he has the power to run right through offensive linemen — he had 6.5 sacks last season. Nolen’s dominant flashes at a position that is becoming increasingly more valuable makes his first-round appeal obvious. But he was not quite as consistent as some of the other defensive tackles at the top of this class — specifically against the run — which is why his range widens to the late portion of the first round.

NFL’s James Bradberry hosts event to raise money for Boys and Girls Club – WBRC
A special event at The Club in Birmingham happened Saturday to raise money for a good cause. Former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry, IV, hosted the All-Pro Blitz soiree to raise money for the AG Gaston Boys and Girls Club. Bradberry, a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, said he feels called give back to the community.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott on hamstring recovery: ‘If I had to play a game today, I definitely could’ – NFL.com
Dak Prescott still has plenty of time before Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. If he needed too, though, the Cowboys quarterback believes he’s recovered enough from last season’s hamstring injury that he could suit up for a game right now. “If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that,” Prescott said at Friday’s 35th annual Children’s Cancer Fund gala, via the team website. “It’s about moving forward healthy to make sure I can play 17 times, 20 [games], whatever we get to when the time’s right.”

Poll: Will Micah Parsons have his contract extension before the NFL Draft? – Blogging The Boys
Parsons, quite simply, is one of the best players to come along in recent franchise history. He checks every single box in terms of being extension-worthy which is why it would have made sense to take care of it when he was first eligible (last year). If only there hadn’t been other contractual matters to tend to that were prolonged. Sometimes the NFL draft can tell us about a team’s intentions with players on their roster. Recently here on the site, our own Jess Haynie discussed players currently on the roster who could find themselves in trouble (relatively speaking) following the draft. This is meant to say that these are players who could suddenly be pushed out sooner rather than later by replacements who are found in this year’s draft. Now obviously the Cowboys are not going to draft someone that makes us believe Micah Parsons is in trouble, although interestingly when Parsons was drafted that served as the fullest and most visible signal that Leighton Vander Esch’s time with the team was coming to a close (he wound up getting more out of it to his credit). But the point is that the draft is an inflection point of sorts so getting the Parsons extension done ahead of it would be good, smart and overall the best thing for everybody. [BLG Note: Lol. Obviously not.]

Big Blue View mailbag: Tyler Shough, Abdul Carter, the fifth-year option, drafting 2 QBs, more – Big Blue View
Ed says: Spencer, if Shough was Jaxson Dart’s age (21) he would clearly be QB2 in this class. I don’t know exactly where the right spot to take Shough would be, but I have no issue with taking him at 34 or even 65 if the Giants think he is a guy they want to work with.

6 offensive players who could be secret superstars in the 2025 NFL Draft – SB Nation
Regardless, every draft class has those players who ascend far beyond where they were drafted. This list of prospects from the 2025 draft class is meant to feature those players who will likely be selected on the late second or third days of the draft, and who could be NFL starters far sooner than anybody imagined based on what the tape says. Because there are those players every year, and it’s our firm belief that more than one of the names below will make that particular cut. They’re not future Hall of Famers just yet, but here are our favorite offensive players in the 2025 draft who could make a lot of NFL talent evaluators look silly sooner than later.
