Silver Minings: Jakobi Meyers could be next in line for an extension

Las Vegas wide receiver may be rewarded after his first 1000-yard season

Las Vegas Raiders’ Jakobi Meyers has been a number-two wide receiver for most of his career. After the trade of Davante Adams to the New York Jets, he got the opportunity to become the main target outside the numbers.

Sharing targets with Brock Bowers for the rest of the season, Meyers put up career numbers. He finished the season with a career high of 1027 yards with 87 receptions. The former undrafted free agent also put up those numbers while missing two games. It led to teams acquiring about Meyers via trade, but the Raiders decided to keep the savvy veteran.

After the Raiders did not add any wide receivers in free agency, Meyers holds the top receiver spot heading into 2025. With Maxx Crosby’s completed extension, ESPN’s Ryan McFadden reports that Meyers could be next in line.

Among a short list of names that makes sense is wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. With the 28-year-old coming off a career season and the Raiders being fairly thin at wide receiver, a long-term deal would lock down a reliable pass catcher for the foreseeable future.

He is entering the final year of a three-year, $33 million deal that he signed in 2023, and has a cap hit of $14.98 million in 2025. However, Meyers doesn’t have any guaranteed money remaining on his contract.

Meyers is open to getting a new deal done because he would like to be a Raider for the long term, according to a source with direct knowledge.

Re-signing Meyers puts stability at the position and still allows the Raiders to be flexible in the draft. By the time Meyers’ new contract is up, the next young receiver should be ready to take the reins.
