Miami Dolphins Cornerback Kader Kohou Officially Re-Signs

Kader Kohou will officially return for his fourth season with the Dolphins after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

When the Miami Dolphins placed the right-of-first-refusal tender on cornerback Kader Kohou, worth $3.264 million in 2025, I thought it was a a foregone conclusion that a team would at least pick up the phone and call General Manager Chris Grier — or Kohou’s agent (IDK how it works) — and try to pry the 26-year-old cornerback out of Miami.

It seemed like a gamble (IMO) because the current depth chart has Jalen Ramsey, Kader Kohou, Artie Burns, Storm Duck, followed by a ton of uncertainty. A risk, but one that the Dolphins have taken before. I thought this would surely come back to bite them in the @$$, and as of today, April 11th, at about 5 PM EST, I can officially say I was wrong — and I couldn’t be happier.

According to NFL Insider, Aaron Wilson (and anyone who can get their hands on the NFL’s transaction list), Dolphins CB Kader Kohou has officially signed his tender, re-signing with the team for the 2025 season.

Kohou burst onto the scene as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M-Commerce and never looked back, starting 13 games as a rookie in 2023. In his first NFL season with the Dolphins, Kohou recorded 72 tackles, 10 pass breakups, an interception, and a forced fumble.

In 2023, he started 16 games under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, recording 63 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. And then last year, with another new defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver, Kohou had a “down year” by his standards, recording 35 tackles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, and a forced fumble.

2025 will be the first season that Kohou has had the same coordinator since he joined in May 2022. Could that help him take his game to the next level, or at least replicate some of the numbers he had in his rookie season?

  • 2022: Snaps: 969 | 534 @ Slot CB | 314 @ Boundary | 95 in box
  • 2023: Snaps: 985 | 647 @ Slot CB | 242 @ Boundary | 91 in box
  • 2024: Snaps: 708 | 453 @ Slot CB | 187 @ Boundary | 58 in box

(Numbers per PFF)

Where Kohou plays could play a role in that. Although he’s primarily been a nickel cornerback, he filled in on the boundary just fine when called upon. In 2022, he played the most snaps of his career on the outside, but that number has dropped in the last few years. He can play inside and outside, but where do Weaver and cornerbacks coach Mathieu Araujo plan to play him?

This, I don’t know. But what I do know is that I could not be happier that Kohou is back for 2025…. even if he hasn’t had a perfect career in Miami.

What are your thoughts on Kader Kohou re-signing with the Dolphins? Was there ever any doubt in your mind? How do you feel about the secondary with the 2025 NFL Draft just two weeks away? Let us know in the comments section below!
